Hahah I remember Northside and a few others, this was not long after I joined this place and really got into boxing. Not going to say I called it but I'd like to think I would today, the hype around Lacy was pretty nuts and there were a good few fights he struggled in before this, it wasn't what it was being billed as.

I don't think Calzaghe "ruined" him, as much as it was just a colossal mismatch to begin with. Hindsight is easy of course, but really Joe had the kind of form Lacy was never going to deal with. He barely even had what you could call a punchers chance, looking back.

Time flies, that was a full house and the fight was on ITV. One siding beating. Lacy was fighting as if he had just landed and had jet lag.

At that time I thought Lacy was over rated. But I didn't think Joe would give such a great performance. I thought Joe was a fighter refs favored. I think it was the Byron Mitchell fight that convinced me.

After left hook got left and right hooked by Calzaghe, I started paying attention
Bika was a good win also.
Manfreddo fight....Peter wouldn't have beaten Joe ..but it was still a pity pat combo stoppage.

    Side note
I talked with Peter Manfredo in Canastota two months later. His body language spoke volumes about that stoppage. Funny guy, and was very convincing in stating it was the sorriest debacle he was ever apart of.

His win over Kessler was a masterpiece.

Ironic that left hook lacy to a guy fighting without a left hand due to injury...

The ultimate use of the term exposed!

Remember the hype Lacy had destroyed a over the hill Robin Reid, ! what he was going to do to Joe
all bark no bite Lacy turned out to be! he took over a thousand punches that did him some damage
also Calzaghe beat him with a damaged hand in that fight.

Calzaghe done okay for a guy that was advised never to box by a top surgeon, very bad hands often
he was fighting injured, yes most fighter fight injured but hand trouble must be difficult to over come
    and extremely pain full.

Against a top ranked fighter at that. Calzaghe got my props. I remember laughing at certain parts of that fight. Rare does a top contender get so thoroughly dominated.

That was a fun watch in all honesty. Once Lacy was compared to "top Holyfield" with best win being Robin Reid you knew they were just pumping smoke for someone else's fire. Top notch Joe just beat the crap out of him. On a side hope Lacy stays out. He's been brutalized recent and last fight date fell through thankfully. Guy had big brass..have to respect that.

I have found this, it does not make me look good! But it does give you idea of my opinions pre fight, and I do not think I was alone in such opinions (SimonH = Me, for those who do not know):

I know Mayweather hands are not great but Calzaghe hands were much worse right. I mean I never seen a guy with no power put the other fighter in retreat i think if he keep some of his strength from his younger days and his fighting style as he got older he would of been unstoppable.
