I take that to mean that he is supported on the ropes therefore remove the ropes and the boxer will go down as there is nothing supporting him

A standing 8 count is given if the boxer does not get knocked down, at no point does anything other than his feet touch the canvas

it may seem like nit picking but they are 2 different rules in my opinion, just spotted that you said 'what shows you that 8 counts still exist' we are talking about the standing 8 count, not the 8 count following a knock down

The "8 count following a knockdown" as you say has always been in place. The description of when a fighter is down is very ambiguous and for the ref to inteperet. The 8 count is clearly there though and while standing so that means I win!

I don't see what is all that ambiguous about the rules that you were strictly quoting just a few posts ago, in fact I would say that the description of when a fighter is down is pretty clear cut

3.32.1 In this Regulation 3.32, “down” shall mean one or more of the following:-
(a) when a Boxer falls from the boxing ring beyond the ring apron as a result of a legitimate blow; or
(b) when a Boxer is on one foot or both feet and at the same time any other part of his body is touching the floor of the boxing ring; or
(c) when a Boxer is supported on the ropes of the boxing ring and, in the opinion of the Referee, is unable to defend himself; or
(d) when a Boxer is in the act of rising

I would say that is when a fighter is down.
End of the day it appears that you were arguing about a completely different rule to what Fenster mentioned in the first place.

Lads lets stop arguing of course this brings up some strong feelings on this fight, we can not change
the fact Nick Blackwell got injured, we could blame ref corner men doctors etc a boxing match is
fight between two adults that are at peak fitness and in controlled environment(RING) with a referee
and Doctors and other medical experts at ringside.

Only just watched the fight. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and given what happened of course I understand that people would have liked to see the fight stopped earlier, for me though, the fight ran it's natural course. Blackwell was a league below Eubank and it showed throughout but he was as hard as nails and always game, he always gave the referee justification for letting him go on. The amount of claret on show made it look a far more brutal affair.

Jnr looked good, strong, bags of energy, good variety. I've never thought he wouldn't beat BJS in a rematch so no change there. Golovkin? Different gravy.
