I've been trying to weigh myself whilst doing press ups, if I do a narrow (diamond press up) with my posture perfect (angle of my keeping my back bent upwards) so that more weight is going onto the hands then the legs, then use only one leg to support the remaining weight only something like 10 pounds of my weight isn't supported.
When you see people with wide legs, they are taking away a load of resistance, and making it easier.
