@Undisputed. You are right Green came late in the Tourny replacing Taylor... How does that lessen things? Johnson as well.
To all of Ward's critics- IMO Chad Dawson wasn't on his radar. Chad decided to drop to 168 on his own terms...and we should fault Ward for not stopping him quick enough?
Take away the label (Tourny) and we got what we cry for..the best in the division to man up. We got it... as i stated...MW to SMW...then we tore it down. Ward fights only at home. Kessler was ruined. Green may have been 26-1 but he wasn't shit.
Okay. ..
I wonder if we all have the ability to look at the downside to any fight? I would say yes.
Example..i have a Ring magazine 1985. Jake Lamotta is downing Haglar and company like we do GGG to Ward LOL!
Yeah ..said Haglar beats blown up WWs!
My point: Different era same complaints.
I have a Ring magazine ...Jack Johnson speaking with Tex Rickard not only said Joe Louis was mechanical thus predictable- he said what he was susceptible to. That year Joe got knocked out by Max... with that punch....the very eras some of us..say when boxers were real.
Were ridiculed by their predecessors.
Like Ray Robinson never haggled. .he did.
Isnt murderers row a group of ignored fighters? Like cherry picking is new.
My point. .different era same issues. Just more belts more divisions in which these shenanigans occur.
We have questioned ..not all of us...but overall. .
GGG
Kovalev
Wladimir
Ward to Wilder.
Its cool to question or doubt. .but what I'm reading on these threads.. Is basically aint nobody worth shit.
So:
Im defending Ward as a champ who cleaned his division. Be it Tourny or last man standing. Who else holds that distinction?
I dont defend his reluctance to fight today nor do I defend what he thinks of himself.
It's cool if you want to defend Ward, contrary to the way it may sound i don't think anyone is claiming ward didn't accomplish what he did. The wins are in the record book and wont be changed. The hinge of this debate for me is whether or not Ward belongs on the holier than though pedestal he perched himself on and is judging other fighters from and demonstrated by the title of thread. where he made it sound like he was waiting around for years while getting the same treatment that GGG is getting from canelo, wbc, golden boy....
"Why does Ward feel it necessary to say anything? He does this because the middleweight has stolen in Wards eyes his rightful passage into the next Floyd..."
"What gets under my skin is many of his fan base and Ward himself that continue to act as if he got the small trinket collection yesterday and that he has been a dominant force in the sport."
"Ward apparently still feels like he's owed something. Despite losing in court and in the forum of public opinion, ward like mayweather and now canelo have deluded themselves into believing that their talent somehow gives them immeasurable stroke"
You asked why I believe the tourney was less that it was stated because of additions of green and johnson. I believe the tourney is less than advertised. If green and Johnson were that great why weren't they seeded to begin with? As it is i understand, injuries happen and people need to be replaced. Why not create a 2 loss elimination and allow the defeated fighters to fight for a wild card spot as the replacement.
Was kesslar ruined? i wouldnt say that? but was he less than he was in his prime? sure.. but he entered the tourney anyway so that erases any excuse for me on him being devalued. But i do feel ward got away with some serious butting and bs in their match.
Also this is a tourney which was rare and a prime example of why there arent many because they rarely are ever completed without controversy. Someone always pulls out due to injury or other problems. (all that aside, bless them for making the attempt-- the most successful tourneys ive seen are the ones where all fights happen in a single night.-- usually mma or underground bareknuckle). Anyway in this tournament, Wards the only one who never had to leave home which doesn't exactly foster the spirit of competition. He had 2 fights and 2 wins and is gifted the third and deciding because or dirrells withdrawal-- someone he said he wouldn't fight even though the tournament could have deemed it necessary (then why enter if he wanted to make his own rules?). In the disbanded sense you spoke about where if these were singles matches, he cleaned out his division and would be considered the best supper middle anyway based on his victories. I agree with you there. As I said nothing about wins changes in the history books, but his claim to winner of the super six tournament was partly why he believed he should've have been getting more and have been able to break his contract. A lot of people disagreed. Me personally, I view all holdouts the same. Even thought I'm a big mikey garcia fan... you signed the contract. finish the contract. move on wiser and make better decisions.
Fans will always have something to say. Just as people will claim he shouldn't try to tear down or devalue someones accomplishments. especially for many fans who have never fought professionally. So how is it that a fighter like ward for all the accomplishments he claims to have under his belt, to throw shade at another fighter for trying to unify a division, chase a consecutive defense record which are the better accomplishments one could have in the sport... instead of blowing it all off and fighting for catchweight dollars.
Ward has always tried to spin things to his convenience and and that draws negativity. When you look at a lot of the fighters that have avoided controversy..how many have nothing to pick at?... my guess is none... and many times i believe fans are happy to ignore you and let you live with your delusion. However at the moment where you decide you want to bump your paycheck by being a polarizing figure. I think fans are all to happy to oblige you. Especially when the object of your ire, is one of the more humble, hardest workers in the sport who is honoring the sport.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.
