Abraham deafeats Miranda!
A definite fight of the year candidate
By Karl Freitag
In an unbelievably vicious fight, IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (22-0, 17 KOs) won a courageous twelve round decision over previously unbeaten mandatory challenger Edison "Pantera" Miranda (26-1, 23 KOs) at the Rittal Arena in Wetzlar, Germany. Both fighters landed big shots early on. Miranda stalked the champion much of the time, while Abraham covered, however when Arthur did open up, he was effective. Both fighters continued to fight after the bell to end round two. The ebb and flow continued in round three as both fighters held up well to the bombs unleashed by the other. Abraham had a good round four, cracking some very hard shots off Miranda's head. Miranda hurt Abraham early in in the fifth (possibly breaking his jaw) then intentionally headbutted Abraham later in the round, causing Abraham to bleed heavily from the mouth. The ring doctor initially determined Abraham could not continue. Referee Randy Neumann ruled that the cut was not caused by the headbutt and told Abraham if he doesn't continue to fight he'll lose by TKO. Bleeding heavily, Abraham chose to continue to fight and finished the round. Abraham boxed the stalking Miranda in the sixth. Blood was streaming out of Abraham's swollen mouth. In the seventh, but Miranda was deducted two points for a low blows. Abraham tried to finish Miranda in the eighth, but Miranda weathered the storm and both fighters continued to land bombs. The brutality continued in rounds nine and ten, and Neumann was showing signs of stopping the fight due to the condition of Abraham's jaw. Action was stopped in the eleventh due to another low blow by Miranda, and Neumann deducted another point. Miranda came out looking for the KO in the twelfth, while the injured Abraham was just looking to get to the final bell. In the end, scores were 114-109, 115-109, 116-109 for Abraham.
