Police were called because Alvin Sterling had allegedly threatened someone with a gun. Police arrive, confront Sterling. Sterling resists arrest even after he has been tackled (and maybe tasered). Sterling continues to resist even after verbal warnings with the officers on top of him and according to the video the police believed he was reaching for his gun....which he had.

Now it's not appropriate to just shoot every single felon who somehow acquires a firearm, BUT felons are not supposed to have firearms it is against the law.

It will be EXTREMELY difficult to judge the officers and it's a shitty situation for all involved.

If you resist arrest ESPECIALLY in a situation where the reason the Police are there is because of somebody threatening another person with a gun the consequences ain't gonna be good. This situation is fucked, it's difficult to determine intent for Alvin Sterling's resisting arrest but that is a life and death choice at that juncture and the Police decided that it wouldn't be them. Could have EASILY gone the other way in this case.
