SlimTrae, you're right about a lot of things, it seems that groups are avoiding each other now'a'days much more so than I can remember. Regardless of if something good happens or bad happens or whatever, we've become more isolationist among ourselves in our own nation. I think a lot of that has to do with Social Media where we (all of the people on Social Media, I've done away with my account on Facebook and am much better off without it) have clicked like on what we like and block/hide for what we don't like. Another issue is the Social Justice Warrior culture we see at universities where there are demands for not only "safe spaces" but for gender, race, ethnic, sexual orientation SPECIFIC "safe spaces" (or as I like to call them SEGREGATED "safe spaces") and then there's "cultural appropriation" paired with that and I'm sorry but in my opinion one of the MOST important things you can do to break down barriers is to SHARE and EXPLAIN ideas and culture with people from outside those spheres of influence. Social media, colleges, special interest groups are all preying on our differences....divide and conquer. I am sick to death of it and I blame those who are active about dividing us up.

That said, when the Orlando shooting happened, I noticed a great act of kindness Chic-Fil-a, a company recently reviled for their assumed stance on homosexuality/LGBTQ opened on a Sunday (a day they are normally closed due to the owner's strongly held Christian beliefs) to feed people who were donating blood for the victims of that shooting. A small gesture of kindness from a big company, but nevertheless it was a meaningful one.
