Omotoso with the work rate and clubbing shots. James more accurate off jab but falls in badly repeatedly catching right hands back or high head. Big knot over James left eye into 9th.

96-93 Omotoso...97-92 and 96-94 James wins split.
Wilder being checked hospital..manager says broken hand AND likely bicep tear. They are either stacking it high or knew something ahead of time. Or have an amazing future in medicine.

I may be in the minority here, but I don't think Wilder looked as awkward last night as he's looked in previous fights. Dare I say he's actually improving in his technique and ring generalship. No... he'll never be the world's most consummate boxer, but he's perfectly capable of improvement. That being said, I agree he needs to stop clowning. It's this maddening "style before substance" trend of modern times.

I tihnk you might be right, I thought wilder looked fairly good last night, he is not a super talent at all but he was looking better than he has before, although it could have just been arreola who was pretty slow and has taken a lot of damage since he fought vitali. I thought wilders jab was improved but still not smooth or brilliant, it's pretty impressive how much power he can generate from not the best positions too.... I thought he was getting pushed around a bit too easily and wasnt being smart enough dealing with arreola when he was pushing him up against the ropes... not bad from wilder though. It does make him pretty fun to watch though.
I think wilder would have a lot more problems with fury than he would v joshua.. Fury is very good at grappling and bullying guys and I think he would just wear wilder out with ease, I dont think wilder has much of a chance v fury but I think that he has a chance v joshua.

In terms of rounds he dominated but I see him mediocre in terms of the real estate he gives up and specifically his posture when falling into the ropes with a guy who didn't have to 'work' his way in. Chris and others just bulled in and Wilder is still and repeatedly doing this awful thing where he basically puts his arms out and at times agrees to wrestle or fling his head around like he is being sprayed with a hose. The range is gone in an instant and his footwork crosses more often than not. I've said it from day one that it looks like a guy who never had to improve a flawed mobile defense while facing a Chinese menu of soft cans coming up and now it's a flaw that has been learned and part of him now. In large gaps its that scattered backing out as well as whirlwind delivery that leaves him as vulnerable as it does an opponent actually working his way in with top notch set up and jab..something he still has not had to face. Any and all improvement will have to happen on the job against far better opposition..we hope..and I can't even call it "amateur" traits. Its this off jumble of rawness really and resting on knowing he has pop. I see a guy like Joshua with amateur tendencies. Something that can be adjusted and the professionalism, sharpness to then add to the void. Course correction. Wilder did well to bust Chris up. He is indeed exciting but he still, to me, resembles a guy whistling past the graveyard. Eventually it will catch up in devastating fashion.
Maybe fans want in Wilder what he just isn't: consummate boxer?
Maybe he is the Marcos Maidana of HWs?
Some guys make it to the top best way they can. I haven't given up on Wilder improving technically. Rather I just except what we see is what we got.
I'm not watching Wilder to grade technique. I'm watching because he is just powerful, exciting, entertaining and yes, susceptible. As flawed as he is...36 stopped out of 37. 3 defense.
Just to compare...
Decided to look at the first three title defense of those we consider great, pretty interesting...
Evander Holyfield ---Forman, Cooper, Holmes. 2 has beens and a recovering addict that dropped Holy.
Lennox Lewis --Bruno, Jackson & McCall who was Tyson sparring partner..he stopped Lennox. Jackson never improved, Bruno proved volatile.
Rocky Marciano --Walcott, Lastarzza, Charles, (Jersey was in his 23rd year, Lastarza would lose 4 of his next 5 fights. And Ezzard was in his 14th year & was 2-2 going into the Marciano fight. His last fight in 1955 against Archie Moore whose first fight was 1935.
Wilder- Molina, Duhaupas, Spitzka, Arreola....pretty bland...but not so different from who?
1980s HW champs post Holmes pre Tyson couldn't defend 2 times before losing.

All's lost! Everything's going to shit!
Thanks I'll have to watch the fight. He's still raw and in love with power it seems.
Impressive he dominated and stopped Arreola I feel. Good wins now over Stiverne and Arreola, tho I am very big on Joshua, those are two more known commodities than he has defeated yet.
Figure Wilder can n probably will hurt Joshua, but probably still get stopped himself. Watxhed that Dillian Whyte fight the other day n showed Joshua is human. He's also tough and smart enough to improve.
Wilder is an exciting fighter, big powers, silly wide.slapping kind of.hooks.and a.good straight 1-2. Exciting confident big young strong guy.
God he's so much better to watch than the klits.
Aahhhhhh, refreshing.......
