Sounds like a pretty straightforward case, why all the mentions?

Did the police actually fire a "warning shot"? I'm under the impression that no cop anywhere is ever instructed to do that, for obvious reasons. If the woman had a shotgun pointed at them a warning shot would just make it very likely one of the cops would die first.
