Bag work, Sparring, mitt work all work together. Each provides something the others don't. Bag work doesn't help anything if you don't learn to move your feet when you do it. Sparring doesn't help if you're in there with someone who sucks and cant catch you. Mitt work can help your accuracy but you have to be able to maintain your distance, balance and work your angles. My personal opinion: I tell people if you're looking to train... look down first.. Get your feet fight. Your stance, your balance, your posture, your movement...
Offense is cool, but defense is key unless you just want to keep fighting 3 second fights ending in a ko (majority of which are you). Boring as it may seem, a jump rope is a good starting point over gloves. It will build stamina, movement, balance, rhythm and condition your arms and your legs and keep your stance from too getting wide. Everything (offense and defense) will get better. Learn to skip rope forward, backward, sideways and in a circles (counter clockwise and counterclockwise)...
Not law, not gospel.. just the way I have people do things.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.
