Default Re: FIFA Plan for 48 team world cup

    48 team world cup ?

FIFA is going to have to start creating new countries.

They say a “World Cup with 48 teams is popular with federations". Well, 0% tax would be popular with lots of voters but doesn't mean it's right.

However it's looks like it will happen, as they say there is overwhelming support for it.

    So they say

But it’s not surprising that FIFA wants to expand the number of teams in the finals: 90 percent of their revenue comes from the World Cup finals and the more teams, the more advertising and sponsorship revenue they can extract from the companies of the countries in the finals.

It’s the gigantism that infects modern football (Euro 2016, Fifa’s endless spin-off tournaments, a Champions league where you don’t have to be champions of your league to qualify)

I mean - From what I’ve read it works like this.

48 teams in the World Cup. 16 will seeded and a first phase of 32 countries.

The 16 seeded teams go through to the first phase (the group stage)

So your Brazil’s, Germany’s, Argentina’s, Spain’s, Holland's, Italy’s, France’s, Portugal’s, England will all be cool. They bring the most cash.

And you best believe who get's seeded will be as rigged as the Eurovision song contest.

But get this : FIFA proposes 32 sides flying in from around the globe to play a ONE MATCH before heading home again.

So it’s a bit like the champions league where the uncool kids have to fight out it out to party with the cool kids.

And even then it’s probably hurt the smaller nations because you could have some very decent teams who won’t be seeded like Uruguay, Chile, Columbia, Nigeria, Ghana who will be matched up against the likes of Fiji, or Qatar.

Obviously FIFA does not give a shit about the fact those countries would have to budget and plan for a potential stay of several weeks, bringing all their players to the host country for a pre-tournament training camp with all the attendant hype, before turning around and heading home after one game.

Bottom line is Bigger is rarely better - so many international tournaments are over long, with too many meaningless matches.

FIFA really just needs to be disbanded at this point and replaced by a non-profit organisation. It's become an international laughing stock. The name FIFA is now a byword for incompetence. It's impossible to trust anyone who has ever had any involvement in the organisation.

It won't be long before the top 7 teams in each group go through to the World Cup, with the best 5 eighth place finishes going through automatically.

Qualifying will end with San Marino playing Liechtenstein to see who doesn't make it through to the finals.

It's becoming a bloody joke, I tell thee

But all is not lost I hear Sam Allardyce is being lined up for an anti-corruption role in FIFA
