With hindsight I dont think we can really dispute the drs decision . However at the time I felt Chico was hard done by and should have been given 1 more round cuz he had Casamayor hurt at the time . If he was getting skooled yeah get him outta there but the fighter wanted to go on , he was on teh verge of a stoppage win and she took it away from him . He won the return anyway so it doesnt really matter . I also think he'l win the decider

Damn, Diego was really startng to take a beating by the 5th/6th round. Straight left hands all night right down the pipe were hurting Corrales. Good body work also by Casamayor. Yeah prob shouldve gave him 1 moe round but damn you heard him say postfight intvw the mouthpiiece went right damn through his lip, it was really bleeding badly, like running down his throat. Yeah he stunned casa at end of final round but by the bell Casa had recovered. Next round would have really huirt Diego really bad.

Can't argue with her judgement, considering the shield punched a hole from inside to out and she believed his jaw was cracked, however, it's clear post fight he wasn't pissing blood (from the mouth), the towel had "mere" smears on it and he didn't even seem bothered.

Casamayor was murder for fouls and messy fights.

Good fight, unfortunate timing and all, but you can't fault the stoppage. She(forget the doctors name) always seemed to do a good job and understood what she was there for. From a doctor's standpoint it shouldn't matter how a fight has gone or whether a guy can still win. They decide whether a fighter is injured to the point where the likelihood of a serious medical situation means you err on the side of the crowd being disappointed.

Casamayor wouldve really been a headache to fight. Cuban lefty who also used every foul there was and new how to get away with it. Thought Weeks let g get away with a bunch low in this one anyways.

To be honest I'm not sure these guys would be at the top of the lightweight division today, how bout you all?

The 1st 2 of these fights really excited me when they occurred. Both fights were controversial. The cut in the 1st and the closeness in the 2nd. I think the 1st could have gone another round but the risk of greater damage being caused was there. I scored the rematch 114-113 Corrales.

Good question. This fight was at 130 but regardless they fit in at 135 too. Browsing through both current divisions there's only one standout i'd confidently back to beat Corrales and Casa - Loma. And that 2003-2005 era also includes Floyd, Castillo, Frietas, etc.

There are four current standout prospects who could equal/surpass those old boys - Teo, Tank, Haney and Garcia. But not yet.

Who are the best lightweights in recent years? Bud and Mikey? Personally I think Mikey is overrated but Crawford holds his own in that era, no doubt, however, any of those old boys is far better than anyone on his current record.

I had to see that fight as I didn't even know it took place. The cut was a bad cut and the doctor made sense, he could have gotten an asthmatic attack by breathing in blood- it would have caused it him damage if he continued. Yes, he was wobbling Casamayor, but what if he couldn't stop Casamayor? What arrogance on Corrales assuming he could stop the man.lololol..... the doctor saved him. Remember, this is the same Corrales who lost all of his senses vs Mayweather and got knocked down 5 times.

I don't care what you say about size and knockdowns, but no man is supposed to be knocked in the head until he loses his balance or semi-consciousness. lolol...

Good call on the doctor. If went on, aside from losing steam and breathing stamina, he may have needed significant facial reconstruction for a fight that was not even a major world title fight with millions of dollars on the line.

Ah right you are, guess I had figured Corrales didn't fight at 130 again after Floyd beat him up. I agree with you on Loma, and those young guys were who I was thinking of really. Of course they don't have the records or anything yet, but on the eye test and all, they may have a big edge physically, to me at least. Of course we know Corrales and Casa had the intangibles, any of those four may prove not to.
