The mystery surrounding George Michael's death draws as a coroner waits for the important results from toxicology tests.

Waiting for the results means that the inquest into the star's death - as well as his funeral - has been delayed, it was announced today.

Hundreds of floral tributes and trinkets that were left outside his countryside mansion have been lovingly moved to a grassy verge with a sign posted on the front door requesting that gifts were not blocking the entrance.

Senior coroner for Oxfordshire, Darren Salter, has yet to open an inquest into the pop star's death on Christmas Day and Thames Valley Police have said they were still awaiting the results of toxicology tests on his body organs to ascertain if drug ingestion had played a factor in the singer's death.

Speculation has mounted that the 53-year-old, who was known to have used crack cocaine and heroin in the past, may have turned to narcotics in his final days.

Police said the death was still being treated as "non-suspicious" although interviews have been carried out in the weeks since, with claims circulating that Australian boyfriend Fadi Fawaz had been spoken to twice, after a series of contradictory accounts were posted on his Twitter account.

A funeral cannot take place until George's body has been released by the coroner, following the opening of the inquest and it was not yet known whether it would take place at the quaint parish church beside his riverside house in Goring-on-Thames, Oxon, or in London, where he also had a home in Highgate.

Today tourists and fans continued to snap selfies outside their idol's home, and a wall beside the house was lined with scented candles and tributes.

Fading bouquets that lined the grassy verge beside his house were moved from where they had blocked the entrance in the initial days after the death.

Metallic balloons and laminated messages and photos from around the world were still accumulating as devotees paid tribute to the Greek singer, who rose to fame with Wham! before launching a solo career.

George Michael ’s traumatised lover has told of his relief that coroners have found the singer died of natural causes.

Fadi Fawaz said it has been “tough, shocking and upsetting” to have felt vilified by the public since the star’s death.

He hit back at the “very cruel” comments he has endured.

Speaking at length for the first time since George’s death on Christmas Day, Fadi said: “It was really painful to feel I was doubted. But now it is all good. I am happy the truth is out.”

Tonight he exclusively told the Mirror: “I feel vindicated. George can rest in peace now.”

Fadi, who dated the pop star since 2011, told the Mirror: “I am happy now he can rest, and we can rest as well.

“I am sure George is happy, now that everything is out. We can move forward.”

Oxfordshire coroners said yesterday the cause of death was heart disease and a build-up of fat on the star’s liver .

The announcement followed two-and-a-half months of speculation about the circumstances in which he died.

Despite police having said George’s death at his home in Goring-on-Thames, Oxon, was not suspicious, Fadi’s comments were criticised by one of the singer’s former close friends and members of the public.

Fadi, 43, appeared to give conflicting accounts of the run-up to the death. At one point he said he was with George at the home the whole weekend. But in another interview Fadi said he slept in his car on Christmas Eve and George died alone.

There were claims posted on Fadi’s Twitter page that George committed suicide. Fadi, 43, later insisted his account had been hacked.

His 999 call released last month revealed him saying he tried to wake George for an hour before the call.

Among the rumours was that George, 53, had suffered an accidental overdose. Coroners said the probe into his death has come to an end and there will be no inquest.

Fadi received a call today informing him of the findings.

He said the ruling made him feel “happy” that George “can rest peacefully”. He added: “Now I can celebrate the life, the love we had, and move on as one.”

Speaking from outside George’s former home near Regent’s Park, Central London, he said: “It has been really tough and upsetting, and shocking two-and-a-half months.

“It is just the lies. I couldn’t describe how painful that was.”

Fadi, a former hairdresser turned photographer, told how he was unable to grieve properly because people have been so suspicious of him.

He said: “Now I can start grieving... without being looked at in a funny way.

“It was painful walking the street and getting funny looks.

“And going to the supermarket, and the woman would not touch your hand when she gives you change.”

The coroners’ announcement comes days after George’s ex Kenny Goss said: “I think his body just gave up. All these years, it was just weak.”

George contracted pneumonia in 2011 and was treated in intensive care. He admitted later he was lucky to survive.

His immune system was affected and the star had to learn to walk again.

George also suffered problems with drugs and alcohol, and in 2010 was briefly jailed for crashing his Range Rover into a Snappy Snaps while high on prescription drugs and marijuana.

He admitted he had been smoking crack before his arrest. George checked into rehab clinics several times.

Oxfordshire’s senior coroner Darren Salter said yesterday: “Inquiries into the death of George Michael have been concluded and the final postmortem report received. As there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver, the investigation is being discontinued and there is no need for an inquest or any further inquiries.”

Dilated cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle, affects how blood is pumped around the body. Myocarditis is an inflammation in or around the organ. George’s former close friend Andros Georgiou previously claimed the pop star’s death was due to an overdose, saying: “I just think he took too much of something, mixed with antidepressants and other drugs he was on – with alcohol.”

He said hard drugs were back in George’s life, with crack cocaine being a “favourite”.

He also claimed Fadi would be banned from George’s funeral, claiming the singer’s family “hated” his partner – though Fadi insisted this was not the case. During a string of furious Twitter posts yesterday, Fadi said: “F*** YOU.”

Then he posted a photo of the couple alongside the caption: “The truth is out.”

He also tweeted about the slurs and the 999 call being released, saying: “All the nasty comments, press and 999 were very cruel and unnecessary... Now I hope to receive some real LOVE.”

Asked about his plans, Fadi told the Mirror: “To have the funeral, and just sit back and look at things. I can try to let go from all the bad news.”

He added: “I demand some love from the world that I didn’t get in the last two-and-a-half months.”

George hit the big time in pop group Wham! in the 1980s before a hugely successful solo career.

Fadi said of his memories of George: “I keep the happy times just him and me.

“I have managed for five years not to be famous. I would like to go back to that.

“I am going to take it easy. Every day it has been horrible.

“At the moment I am just going to say ‘thank you, universe, for the truth’.”

'Now I can grieve': Fadi Fawaz believes George Michael is finally at rest after cause of death was confirmed
