Re: Quigg now training under Roach at the Wild Card Gym
I think most praise and criticism of trainers is way over the top. Without doubt they make a difference and some are far better than others (like everything in life) however, in the end they're only as good as the fighter. Recent examples are Shane McGuigan and Dave Coldwell. The young fella went from genius to clueless novice overnight and Coldwell got the blame for Price's weight, even though no-one said fuck all about his weight in the previous two fights which was exactly the same and he raved about how much stronger and comfortable he now is.
Obviously I can't hold a candle to Joe Gallagher but feel he deserved criticism for the Frampton fight. Not just getting the tactics wrong or reading the fight wrong until to late, but the most baffling thing was they had nearly came unstuck with the same/similar gameplan against Salinas. Even against Martinez it was worrying watching Quigg cluelessy back peddling for four minutes letting Kiko take absolute liberties (I think Quigg would have stopped/hurt Martinez in the 1st if he stood his ground).
It might all be Quiggs fault, we'll see, but I feel like Gallagher wasn't getting the best out of him. Sometimes less is more. Focus on what you're good at instead of trying to be what you're not.
