I don't think it's so much that Americans hate British fighters, but rather that most of us simply don't know about British fighters. If you're not fighting on HBO these days, you simply have almost no shot at any sort of mainstream recognition here in the states. Calzaghe is coming to the end of his career, and only now is he going to fight on HBO. Hatton's 'American coming out party' has pretty much turned into a complete disaster. They thought his blood and guts style would be instantly admired here, and instead for his first HBO fight he put on a less-than-exciting performance against a no-name, thus losing any chance of pulling in a large amount of American fans who hadn't seen him yet.
