What point are you even trying to make here exactly Hulk? A country with a huge population and econmoy has more big fighters and big money fights than a much smaller one?
Really?.. I'm shocked.
Naz and Hatton went to America to get the biggest fight... but when you are the biggest fight why shouldn't fighters come to you? There are plenty of crap British fighters who go to America to try and get on the ladder... But do the likes of Calzaghe really have to go to America? When was the last time Floyd or Taylor fought outside of America?
When you are the best fighters come to you.
I agree Adam, Calzaghe shouldn't have to go anywhere right now - I see him being more unbeatable than Mayweather, but 4 years ago when Hopkins and RJJ were at their peak it was his job to make a name for himself in America so they didn't have any excuses not to make the fight happen.
And even though I just said he shouldn't have to come out of England to fight, he still needs to do something across the pond on account of our own ignorance. Like I've said on other posts, it's embedded in our brains to think 'America this and America that'.
Joe coming over here can help turn that ignorant bullshit around![]()
CC for you, good points put forward. But....Originally Posted by raleights
So the answer to all the critics of young Mr Calzaghe is to go over to the US and fight who......
Bernard Hopkins - He'll always be criticised for fighting a Hopkins who's over the hill and on his way down.
Roy Jones Jr - ditto
Antonio Tarver - He's not even fighting that much anymore now he's a film star, and in his last fight had his arse handed to him on a platter by an old man.
Allan Green - Green already has critics in the states who say that he isn't all he promises to be after a disappointing showing last time out.
Well to quote Brad Pitt in Troy...."Is there no one else"?
(Hopefully some more knowledgable american fans can put forward their selections.)
Firstly I would like to start by saying that I would like to get a good view of Calzaghe first hand, not on youtube, so maybe that's why I want him to come to the states.Originally Posted by superheavyrhun
Agreed that there is not much out there for Calzaghe in the US, although a fight with Antonio Tarver should bring him a hefty payday and an easy W, that's about it. Joe Spina is someone else that could be a worthy opponent, although JC would handle him quite easily. And of course he could make a mockery of the Contender season 1 guys, just pick em off one by one, Alfonso Gomez would prolly bring him a good payday as well.
Hatton on the other hand has made the right decision coming to the US as the competition in Welter and Light Welter here is quite fierce, he will have better access to a lot of really talented Mexican and Pueto Rican fighters as well.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
Adam, firstly, I've said the same thing before myself, the US is A LOT bigger than the UK, its only logical that we will have many more great fighters. As a result, we have many more big fights, super fights. My point was, before you twisted it, is that we have more great fighters than the UK, and to make great fights, UK fighters need to come over here. Also, listen to some of you, "I think Calzaghe is more unbeatable than PBF", "Tarver would be an easy W for Calzaghe". Really? You truly believe that? Since before the Lacy fight even? Well let me say this, Tarver, God knows I hate him, but he was one of the greatest amatuers of all time. And he has been a pretty good pro. He has greater expierence, opposition, power, skills, everything than Jeff Lacy does, though I like Lacy. He would be a difficult task for Calzaghe, a damn difficult one. Don't think Tarver is garbage becus he had an off night and lost to a legend, Bernard Hopkins. No fighter is invincible, and certainly not Calzaghe. This is the attitude that makes some Americans hate British fighters, the snobbish attitude that some Brits have about their good fighters. If Calzaghe fights the best at 168-175, he will not retire undefeated. If he continues fighting the Kalbary Salems and the Bikas of the world, he just might though.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
This is the one thing we should fight against though, those who think their opinions are fact. In my opinion Calzaghe is much more unbeatable than PBF, the man is a physical specimen with noone around him that can even begin to match his skillset - jesus h christ whens the last time someone at that weight threw that many punches and still was ready for a few more rounds? Floyd being at such a talented weight has his hands full, so naturally the chances of losing are much greater. I've been praising Joe and his abilities ever since I saw him on the Mike Tyson undercard when they fought in Denmark - and I'll continue to do so until I see him laying on the canvas (hell maybe even after!).
You know I once thought I knew everything too Hulk, then I woke up and said to myself hmmm I wonder what the real world is like. What a bitch it was when I came to the conclusion I didn't know shit :P
Calzaghe would comfortably beat Tarver... I never rated him.. not before or after he got lucky against A shot Roy Jones and then chased a gun shy Roy Jones around a ring... or before or after an 40 year old blown up middle weight kicked his arse.
As for his experience, he may have fought a few more classy fighters than lacy did... but in 24 fights how much has he learned?
And don't assume that just because you knew nothing about him in the UK... that over here we only rate Calzaghe off him beating up a hyped 1D puncher.
He can beat anynody out there who is near enough his weight to fight him... wether he will or not depends on to many factors but he has a high chance of beating every fighter from 160-175 out there..
You need to drop the double standards Hulk... "No fighter is invincible, and certainly not Calzaghe. This is the attitude that makes some Americans hate British fighters, the snobbish attitude that some Brits have about their good fighters."
Are you kidding me? Our fighters trash talk less than half as much as yours... are twice and moddest and thinking your favourite fighter in unbeatable is certainatly not exclusive to any one country... least of all the USA.
There are only a few british fighters I dislike:
Nigel Benn (rabbit puncher)
Audley Harrison - scaredy cat
Matt Skelton - BUM
Michael Sprott - BUM
Junior Witter - England's version of Floyd Mayweather Jr.....at least in attitude
And I am not a huge fan of Joe Calzaghe but at least I respect his skill
Listen, I do not think I know everything. I don't. That was proved after Mayorga got his ass whipped by Oscar. I had to eat a lot of crap for that, and rightfully so. Likewise with Lacy and Calzaghe, I picked Lacy to win. Anyway, Jeff Lacy didn't talk a bunch of crap, and was respectful before and after the fight. A couple times after he KO'd Reid and Pemberton, he shouted "Joe I'm comin for you! I'm gonna knock you out!" Or something like that, but nothing more. And no, Calzaghe hasn't been talking much crap, mainly just his rabid fans.Originally Posted by AdamGB

I'll agree with a few of those....I believe it is very difficult to actually find an Audley Harrison fan. There is just so much disappointment afterthe hype that the BBC gave him in Britain after he won his medal at the olympics, and he has just let everyone down, and I'm not sure that beating Matt Skelton will be redemption for him. Matt Skelton is not a classy fighter at all, but he's got a good chin, and certainly was a good brawler. Skelton/Williams' first fight was good viewing. Sprott - agreed. Witter deserves some credit for finally achieving his WBC title, though his attitude is not superb.Originally Posted by Lyle
