Out of the 4 I voted Duran over Leonard cause no one expected that I mean you gotta think Leonard at this time was untouchable he was golden he was the most skilled fighter around. But not on that night.

    The rest were great too.
Hearns always had a punchers chance but you didn't think it could happen and it did.

I went with Hagler KO Hearns in 3.
It was the damn best 3 rounds of two fighters who just said phuk it and threw caution to the wind. I loved that fight.

If Hearns never had a glass chin he could have been the super welterweight of all time imo.

Hagler knocking Hearns out really REALLY did it for me.

Not so sure that that will ever die out for me. Just an incredible match up.

Definetely not Duran-Leonard. Simply because Leonard conciously fought him flat-footed to prove a point and still almost won. Had Leonard fought the way he did in the second fight, the way he always fights, he'd have beaten Duran at a canter.

We're talking about a mover like Leonard standing his ground against someone like Duran. Not impresive at all on Duran's part. Very much in the same way that Chris Byrd wouldn't be nearly as effective if he decided to stand and trade.

Still amazes me why anyone gives Duran so much credit for that win.

Leonard consciously fought flat-footed. He has stated that several times and if you watch the fight you can clearly see it. The second fight was Leonard fighting his usual fight and not getting involved in any macho games. He moved and boxed and Duran could not cope. Had he decided not to stand and trade in the first fight, there's not a chance, in my eyes, that Leonard would have lost. The fact that leonard almost won while standing his ground just proves how unimpressive Duran's victory was.

    Duran beating Leonard for me.

He was moving up in weight & he forced a boxer & one of the finest welterweights ever into a street fight.

    Brilliant stuff from Roberto.

Shame he wimped out in the rematch, to spoil all his great work in the first fight.

I voted Leonard coming from behind to stop Hearns because he showed that night....along with all the skills, charisma etc he had a champions heart!

Gimme a break. Whenever a man defeats an undefeated, favored, #1 p4p fighter in the world, in the prime of his youth, saying it isn't impressive only points out the fact what a hater you are

He didn't force him into it. Leonard said in an interview prior to the first Duran fight that he was going to fight him flat-footed. He was true to his word and he lost the fight. He then said, in a light-hearted moment, when interviewed by, I believe, the same person, that he would not be fighting him flat-footed.

A hater? I'm not a Duran hater. It's fact that Leonard said before the first fight that he would fight Duran toe to toe. It's a measure of your inability to engage in a proper discussion that you would label someone a hater for stating an opinion backed up by indisputable facts.

Here's one link I could find, but I believe the full quote was from Sugar Ray Leonard: Beyond The Glory or a documentary similar to that. Perhps the Legendary Nights series, although that didn't cover Leonard-Duran.

"Depends who, if you have seen Leonard fights you should know that he was a dancer. Leonard said before fight to journalist that he will fight flat-footed and knock-out Duran. And he tried just that. Saying that Duran forced Leonard to fight flat-footed is pretty dumb statement.

About Duran being stronger than Leonard, i don't think that those who really knew how good Duran was thought that Leonard has chance if he fights inside.
No doubt that Ferdie Pacheco & (showtime?) commentators knew it, during fight they say many times similiar to:

'i just couldn't believe this. I can not believe that Leonard would come out and fight Duran like he was fighting Pete Ranzany!!'"
