Thanks Master! I had better delete my traditional 'Blair is a c....' post now that we have gone public. Though he is of course still a c.....
Spoken like a true Tory, X!
I file my taxes and last year didn't pay any having got everything refunded. I think I made a little bit extra than I paid in income tax, but of course you pay hidden taxes on everything so I probably lost overall.
It has been levelled at me in the past that I am a bit Tory and in some ways that is true as I am very self reliant and do actively try to protect myself in a pretty conservative society. However, if I don't do that I can get into very serious trouble. I work on temporary contracts that can change on a whim and my health is a bit dicey, so you have to think ahead. I am very aware of just how uncertain the future is, but I also know that we can aspire to give people more than temporary contracts and permanent anxiety. It would be good if more people did think ahead and organise themselves, so in some ways we are not completely dissimilar, X. I don't have children and part of that is a protest against my upbringing and also a protest against how the world is run. I have been quite vocal about it. I don't think I have an automatic right to have children. I would like people to have less children. A lot of people are wasteful and don't realise the value of things because they have never had to think about it. When things get handed on a plate from Daddy or even the government it isn't always appreciated. Take students who often go to university as a social experiment rather than a serious attempt to study. I know I was like that and only got serious about it when I was having to cough up several grand to study years later. Take the teenage mother issue which doesn't really happen out here. You do need to think carefully about how resources are allocated and not reward people who are taking the mickey. I totally get that. However we shouldn't all be seen as objects to be extracted from either. The rich pay proportionally less tax, let's make it more proportional.
I am not against paying more tax, but I am also not particularly rich. I do not earn 85,000 pounds a year, much less than that. All Corbyn is saying is that corporations and the rich should pay more as their burden has declined, so why not increase their share? I am fine with paying more taxes if it means schools are run well, hospitals are staffed and equipped, pensioners are guaranteed a standard of care etc. I can plan my future as much as I like, but we are all one car accident away from serious hardship. Well maybe not you, but most are!
