Marvelous Marvin Hagler was born on this day 23 MAY 1954

Carlos Zarate was born on the same day in 1951

In 1922 Harry Greb W 15 Gene Turnney, NYC Wins U.S Light Heavyweight Title. Tens seconds into the first round Greb breaks Tunneys nose, then later in the same round opens a huge gash over Tunney's left eye, then in the third round busts up Tunney's right eye. Over 15 rounds Tunney lost an estimated 2 quarts of blood. The blood was so thick on Grebs gloves he had to step back and hold them out so that referee Kid Partland could wipe them with a towel.

Benitez fought Hope in 1981 for the WBC light middle weight title - below

    Good find, Beanz.

Every time I see Benitez fights I can't help but think about how he is today.

The remarkable thing about the Maurice Hope fight is that Benitez was not known so much for his punching power, as for his defensive wizardry.
Yet his KO over Hope was devastating.

A day late but how about Vince Phillips tko over Kostya Tszyu! Just insane to think that was 20 long years ago. Buster Douglas was born. Also on this historic day, yesterday , Simmie Black 34-165-4...no that's not a credit card number..actually won a fight vs some undefeated fighter .

The atmosphere seemed electric when Hatton fought Kostya on that day in Manchester. Very rough and tough fight.

6-6-88: Iran Barkley knocks out Tommy Hearns in the 3rd round of their first fight.

Bless that Thomas Hearns. He was never in a dull fight.
