The humour was such a big part of his performance. Never really understood Connery's appeal, thought Brosnan was neither one thing or the other but really think Craig has nailed it in making the role his own which is what you have to do.Moore made other work but he just is Bond for so many of us. The only "Saint" we got was Val Kilmer .....oh boy that's a rough one

    Pierce Brosnan did well

Ralph Fiennes could have been a decent Bond...played M in Skyfall.

Here's something to stir up a bit of debate...

Jeremy Brett, hmmm....still prefer him as Sherlock Holmes to be quite honest, he was the absolute best at it! Think he was a bit too sissy to play Bond though, Bond needs a certain Alpha Male machismo whereas Holmes is just cerebral and aloof.
Dick Van Dyke would have been God awful as Bond....good fellow, but not a James Bond guy.

Liam Neeson 1994 Not interested in starring in action movies....GAAAAAAAY

Good on Burt Reynolds, Clint Eastwood, and Adam West for turning down the role, they are all way too American for the role.

The Saint, flopped as a film but was a good TV series.

Did you know Lazenby had never acted before and got lucky when spotted by Cubby Broccoli at a barbers.

Am sure there's a stretched truth to it but that's how the story goes
