6-6-88: Iran Barkley knocks out Tommy Hearns in the 3rd round of their first fight.

Bless that Thomas Hearns. He was never in a dull fight.

Always love this nugget of a huge upset. Barkley was basically paid peanuts. Still don't understand how Olajide got Barkley off his feet just prior but not Hearns who landed more than half his shots. Really a case of Hearns rolling right into a bomb.

Barkley was getting tortured and destroyed in the ring and got very lucky. Tommy was on fire during that period blowing out most of his opponents.

He was getting battered, no such thing as lucky punches though . Always had a soft spot for Barkley. Talk about a guy fully maximizing limited potential. Huge grapefruits that one.

True, just still bitter about it even now. Hearns was perfect and on fire that day and the fight would have been stopped at the end of the round.

Two June 9th personal favorites of mine:

1978: Larry Holmes vs. Ken Norton

Fight of the Year. The type of HW fight that made me so grateful when Klitschko-Joshua finally happened. THAT'S what we were missing, folks. I only put Round 15 in there, but the whole fight was terrific.

2007: Miguel Cotto vs. Zab Judah

Thoroughly enjoyed that fight. I posted a clip of the highlights which is great, if you can get past the background music.
