Remember "Mercury" Mike Williams?

This great article spoke about this forgotten heavyweight, who supposedly knocked Tyson down in sparring and once played Union Cane in Rocky V.I'd never heard of him, but im sure some on here have. He seems to have started out strong, but lost it along the way. He was once Ring magazines prospect of the year. Anyone remember this forgotten heavyweight?

Yes I remember him being 1986 prospect of the year in ring magazine , body beautiful who was beaten by slim Whitherspoon / Buster Douglas / Garcia etc.

Remember seeing him in Garcia fight. Have to wonder if he ever came close to meeting Mike early on in career playing off the sparring and KD. Lost to Douglas on Tyson v Spinks undercard and just walked away for couple years.

Didn't notice my original post got deleted while I was trying to edit it. Williams was known to be a superstar gym fighter- like Rocky Juarez- but he came up short in real fights. Douglas dropped him four times, twice with jabs.Go on sir. I'm sure you have some insight into this guy.

Nigel Benn and David Haye have said that at the Miami gym there were plenty of very good fighters from the street that sparred in their gyms.
