June 15 was the 26th anniversary of Robert Quiroga vs Kid Akeem.

Such a brutal brilliant fight. Short term Akeem was able to recover but suffered and Quiroga took some injury year and half later vs Borboa. He and Quiroga ironically suffered violent deaths far to young. Anifowoshe was supposed to do big things but that one really took permanent toll on both. Fought with 6 Oz gloves did them no favors and not sure that ever happened again.Absolutely brilliant fight, shame about the injury, but Quiroga was on fire that night. Barn burner of a fight and an electric atmosphere.

Quiroga is still and icon in San Antonio; his brother uses his image and name in a prominent anti bullying campaign.

Did not know about the 6 oz gloves! That was even more brutal. The height disparity was a lot wider than I realised.Such a brutal brilliant fight.
