Default If you had to give out awards right now..............

For 2006 so far...Make your list and I'll add it on the votes.

    Fight of the year:
    Gonzalez v. Vazquez (3)
    Sithchatchawal v. Monshipour (1)
    Duddy v. Campas (1)
    Brewster v. Lyakhovich (1)

    Upset of the year:
    Baldomir v. Judah (4)
    Brewster v. Lyakhovich (1)
    Chi v. Koshimoto (1)

p4p # 1 (think of what they have done in 2006 only):
    Manny Pacquiao 2-0-0 (1 KO) (2)
    Bernard Hopkins 1-0-0 (2)

    Jorge Arce 3-0-0 (2 KOs 1 RTD) (1)

For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

Fight of the year-Sithchatchawal-Monshipour. I thought Gonzalez-Vasquez was just a good fight. First six rounds it was pretty much just a boxing lesson and then Vasquez came on but not nearly the type of sustained action that I look for in a fight of the year candidate, definitely not as fast paced and consistent as the Monshipour fight.

    Upset of the year-Guess I'd have to agree with Judah-Baldomir. But if there's a 1B its Sturm-Castilliejo

P4P # 1 : Just accomplishments this year? I don't know maybe Pac with a stoppage of Morales and the Larios win. There's Floyd but only fight with a win over Judah. Calzaghe dominated Lacy but I guess I'll go with Pac. Arce needs to step it up, sure he's got three wins this year but they were against a good but way past his prime fighter in Alvarez, and then just two solid guys in Rivas and Hawk. Also every guy was over the age of 33 at least, that's old for that weight. I'm a fan but i'm starting to get a bit impatient, its like he's living off the Hussein wins, those aren't good enough wins to live off of. Maybe nobody will fight him, I don't know.

CC back. Good topic. I want to see Arce-Darchinyan. I'm not implying that Arce's scared, that's not him. I just think he needs a big fight.

Actually I should have said Gonzalez-Vazquez was a very good fight, but I don't think it was fight of the year.

I'm a little biased on the FOTY cause Jhonny is one of my favorite boxers, even though he lost.....I agree Arce-Darchinyan would be the answer to who dominates the division for sure, can't think of many other top boxer match-ups that have the possibility of actually happening in 2007

As usual, OumaFan sets the tone of the analysis.

    I suppose I better see Sithchatchawal-Monshipour then!
What channel was that fight on, or youtube?

Fight of the year, I'd say...
Duddy vs Yory Boy Campas! No, I take that back. It was fight of the century.

Fighter of the Year, IF the year ended now:
Manny Pacquiao is a nice choice, even though Larios matchup wasn't even supposed to be a fight at all.

Joe Calzaghe has the nicest performance over Lacy's mean style, but he's going to lose it in his next fight. Maybe someone needs to educate me on this Bika guy, but I know of pleny other fighters Joe could have capitalized on.

    Upset of the Year:
Baldomir of Zab Judah, Sturm always had weak whiskers IMO and didn't protect that well against DLH.

If we had a file sharing board, and of course we don't, then I would assume there might have been a link there but I also assume it would have timed out by now. I can't find it on youtube either, although I could be just misspelling their names.

Ooh, turns out Sithchathawal lost last night to Celestine Caballero, third round stoppage. Surprising, showed a good chin in the Monshipour fight. I thought Caballero might win, he looked good pretty much dominating Ponce de Leon, but I didn't expect that. Looks like Caballero-Vasquez is the best fight at 122 now.

Celestino had to weigh-in naked to make weight.

I do not doubt it, what a freak of nature, a 5'11 122 pounder. He's gonna be difficult for almost anybody at that weight.

FOTY- Aurthur Abraham He survived a beat down, but fighter of the year? Intresting choice Mick . I am usually on par with you, but i don't get this one.. That Miranda fight was a horrible watch. both fighters fighting like assholes. and neither fighter looked sharp. Abraham was lunging wild from the start and mostly running for most of the fight.

IMO fighter of the year is not entirely based on the style in which you won a fight but more on what you did for the particular year. In this case Abraham defended his newly owned IBF belt 3 times against very good opponents.
He first beat S. Taylor not world class but a decent fighter, he then beat Jantuah and finished off the year defending his belt against Miranda a highly regarded fighter.

Also keep in mind that this is up until today I have Baldomir in that spot too, if he can finish off the year wining it's his spot no questions asked. I also have the winner of Wladdy & Brock for the spot of FOTY but that can't be determined till after they fight. Thats why this is up and till today. I don't see any other fighter out there that doesn't have a *pending fight that can be put in place for Abraham who wont be fighting this year anymore.

Thats how I came up with Abraham.
