first of all what does his race have to do with his fighting ability, second of all just because he was born and raised in America doesn't take away his roots of being Irish, same thing goes for all latinos, Puerto Rican and Mexican specifically, even though born and raised in US, they consider themselves Puerto Rican or Mexican, so i guess Mike Tyson can't say he's African American cause he wasn't born or raised in Africa

Funny story - when Don King began promoting the Foreman-Ali 'Rumble in the Jungle' he wanted to drum up Zairean interest and had the strapline 'From Slavery to the Heavyweight Championship' and it bombed, I mean it went down like a lead balloon.

Eventually, they asked some guys in the street what they thought and they said "It doesn't interest us, we were never slaves, we only sold off the weaker ones to America to be slaves - why would we be interested?"

I was in Africa recently (I used to live there and my dad is from Tanzania), and there is not much affinity with black Americans or Caribbeans there. So all those idiots who say 'they should go home' need to realise that they will not have a home there !!!!

    Here endeth the lesson

Micky ward has a iron chin and great punching power. Arturo has the skills, punching power and the speed. you cant take it away from them becasue the trilogy they projuced was special. they are some of the best fights i have ever seen and i think they are both terrific boxers. my favourite out of the two is gatti though. like i have read about what would have happened if they had met both in there primes i still think gatti would have won at least 2 of the 3 fights.

Merchnat (ugh) who had not done his reaerch on Ward was calling him a bum all night until he iced Sanchez with one brutal left hok to the body in the 7th...his signature punch. That shut the HBO team up real fast.
The Sanchez fight was ridiculous, its amazing to see Ward fight as negatively as he did in that fight. Merchant was obviously annoyed but considering the way Micky was fighting its almost understandable, Ward just ran around the ring and threw maybe 10 punches a round, he made Cory Spinks look like a combination of Rocky and Terry Norris. Its really bizarre to watch the fight, cause its so out of the ordinary of what you expect to see from Ward, how he fought the first seven rounds was really no different than how Derrick Gainer fought JMM. Just looked like he flat out didn't even want to be in the same arena as Sanchez, but then one left hook to the body and the fight was over. Bizarre fight.

he very rarly had the abilty to train for most fights to the best of his ability due to being as blue collar as he is... Never had guys throwing up huge dollars to let him quit his job to train. Lots of guys have speratic showings like that due to that issue. Along with Ward, grady brewer. I saw him fight manfredo years ago and you could tell he just wasn't in shape... Same with Ward, amongst others...

Maybe he was taking his time trying to figure out the openings Sahchez had?

He was REALLY taking his time

I downloaded the fight and didn't know anything about it ahead of time and it was shocking to see Micky that way, just bizarre because of how I've always seen Ward. He was literaly dancing around the ring doing nothing at all, nothing. Not one punch at a time, totally inactive. And Sanchez had openings, it just seemed like Ward was almost in awe of him, of his power or something. Bizarre to see Micky moving around the ring for a whole round, occasionally throwing a jab.

Not downing the guy cause he's earned respect, and one fight doesn't change that, I'm just saying how bizarre it was to see him fighting like that.

He found that one opening didn't he?

I forget that, was that the fake jab to the perfect left hook to the body that downed the guy?
