I will repeat myself, I am floored why so many people seem to think this is such a big fight. It's a decent fight. I mean GGG is a great fighter and Canelo is solid. So I'm not acting as if it isn't a good fight to be made, but there are a few fights in boxing right now that I would be more interested in.

Some talk as if this is a fight of the decade or something.

It's the biggest fight in the division, not necessarily the best.

Getting seriously pissed this weekend as it looks like I'll spend it moving. Already got the keys and furniture etc already sorted last night and today. The shit is looks like no cable connect until Sunday and at&t is a damn joke with new accounts and "the system is making the reconnect date available, might be next week". FFS I swear. Has to be the worst company I've ever dealt with, incompetent wiffle dicks and do not prioritize customer service and cannot get their story straight. Worst case I can possibly watch on my phone or some in overly bright sports bar with a bunch of yelling fook faces who are still rooting for Mcgregor . At least post here and get the play by play. Off on a rant. Still liking Golovkin but closer than I initially thought. The diva treatment of Canelo is borderline boy band and deep down hope Golovkin doesn't let it muck up his head.

This is easily the most significant boxing history fight in recent times.

Canelo, for all that hardcore/nerds think of him, is the biggest star in America (ignoring Floyd's sparring sessions), his TV numbers/PPV and gates (50,000 with no-names like Liam Smith) currently destroy everyone else (he's the only guy in town doing a million PPV buys and filling up Vegas casinos).

Golovkin will cement his place amongst the greats by having a "star" on his ledger. Hagler, Hopkins and to a lesser extent, being a Brit, Calzaghe, spent years as great dominant champions without a "star" name to make them crossover (they were all b-side too in their breakout fight). Golovkin wins he becomes a bonafide HOF all-time great, loses he is forever known as an overrated Euro hype job.

I agree with almost everything Fenster said. I'm pretty sure he is stating what the trolls will say with "overrated Euro hype job" but my question to them is what does that make Canelo if GGG wins?

Maybe it's a question for Gamo. He is so sure Canelo wins and that it will be easy. Does GGG become his new hero or do we have to put him on suicide watch?

If Canelo wins easy I'm getting the lottery numbers for next week from Gamo.

Waste of time, GaMo doesn't want a conversation with anyone so I wouldn't expect an answer from him.

Like all trolls he's probably too busy dealing with the constant attention from Master (the daddy troll of repetitive multi-spam tosh) to converse with anyone else.

I agree that Ward and Kovalev were both more accomplished as fighters but it lacked the excitement because of Ward’s negative style of fighting. Canelo has a crowd-pleasing style and GGG likes to come forward (he’s not hard to find) so people are expecting a good fight. Most people would rather see a great fight than a significant or important one which is dull.

I see GGG-Canelo going pretty much like Fonfara-Chavez Jr.
Canelo looks naturally smaller than GGG when I’ve seen them face to face (like after the Chavez fight) Alvarez has spent most of his career at 154 and even went below that for the Mayweather fight so I don’t think he needs to cheat to make weight. He’s no light heavyweight! He’s only 5’9 which is very short even for a middleweight (he’s not as big as you make out) and I can’t remember him ever failing to make weight in a fight?

Golovkin isn’t a terrible fighter, in fact he’s a very good fighter but he’s spent most of his career fighting terrible fighters. Take Jacobs from his record and you’re left with a list of C- fighters.

If GGG somehow pulls off the miracle then I’ll give him credit. He won’t become my hero because I don’t enjoy his style and I think he’s a bit of a twat but I’ll give him credit for beating a Alvarez. It won’t happen though so it doesn’t matter. This fight won’t be close and Alvarez will win so your questions are irrelevant but I’m looking forward to being proven right.

You do not like GGG action packed style and think he is a twat but like Floyd?

    You are something else.

GGG plods forward and throws slow punches, it’s all very predictable and it lacks creativity.

Alvarez generally tends to come in between 170 - 175 on fight night. I'm pretty sure he was 172 against Trout on the unofficial HBO scales.

I think that results tend to make fights more significant. For example, if Canelo won, it could become a very significant fight. If GGG wins and Canelo never really makes it in the MW division then this fight turns into not much.

IMO ward vs Kovalev fight was much more significant. Both fighters were better than GGG and Canelo and IMO was for best fighter in the world.

Beating a current "star" far outweighs the benefit of beating a legit threat when it comes to general historical significance.

Danny Jacobs may well be a far superior middleweight threat than Canelo, however, should Golovkin win it will be his standout dish. The fight people bring up first. Again, just look at the history of boxing - Hagler, Hopkins, Barrera, Lewis etc. I could name dozens of all-time greats remembered for their most high-profile wins not necessarily best.

I agree that this fight is big like the Mayweather va Mcgregor fight was big. General boxing fans are more interested. I just doubt that the outcome makes it historically significant because GGG should win fairly easily and at the end of the day Canelo won't turn out to be seen as a great fighter but just a good one.

As boxing fans though I'm hoping that most understand that Canelo is overrated so it's more of a hype job of a fight.
