I love Tito v Vargas, both undefeated warriors who gave it their all.

My memory is shit but I remember Vargas inching his way back into that until a blatant Tito nut shot.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

You are correct. Vargas even knocked down Tito. Vargas was special and was on fire during that time.

Had to have a look and this day apparently was pretty boring . So far Foreman ko'd Dave Jaco in his comeback oh and Tony Tucker was born. Attached firmly via umbilical cord to Don King . Young Billy Conn beat Fritzie Zivic. Time to break out the crusty dvds and tapes.

Day was pretty stacked! Always like the unedited programs and haven't seen this pre fight with Uncle Roger popping off before . Rocky was always a very well seasoned pro not to be overlooked.

Felt for Vargas after that defeat. He was special indeed and that fight may have taken something out of him.

Vargas was the best young up and coming fighter that I have ever seen and got the title quickly.

Tito did low blow Vargas and maybe he had something in that left hook.

Vargas gave Oscar hell as well but lost that fight too.

Hagler v Mugabi! Also on undercard young bantamweight Richie Sandoval had previously knocked down and knocked out the superb champion Jeff Chandler to capture the wba belt but on this night in 1986 he would fight for the last time. Facing Gaby Canizalez, the brother of Orlando, Sandoval came in having to lose about 10 lbs and had not made the 118 weight limit in his last four fights. He would be dropped twice leading into the brutal 7th where he was dropped 3 more times. Each was nastier than the other and he would lay motionless and actually stop breathing for some time. Rushed out on a stretcher he would require emergency surgery and would thankfully make a complete recovery but forced to retire.
