I think it is a big oversimplification to just dismiss it as political correctness gone mad. It's just a very lazy and handy phrase to just signal that you don't really want to even enter into a discussion about or consider an alternative view of anything. I can't talk about Darts never followed it on TV, or been to see it live. (unless you call a team at a pub watching it live) I think also that not having any female posters here right now should tell us all a whole lot about why many women might not agree with what we think. I can though offer my view on Boxing ring card girls, having worked with several.
They do it because for them it is a job. It is rarely, if ever, their only job and so the idea that they would not have a livelihood without it is a bit daft and certainly misguided. We also have to remember ring card girls have only been around since the 1960's. It is something that came from the casinos and Vegas so there is nothing sacred and untouchable about the role of a ring card girl in boxing. Again female fans even being allowed to come and watch boxing is a fairly new invention and female boxers, a newer thing again.
X is right the world is certainly not binary and all men are not predators but it is, or has been until very recently a man's world. It's 2018 now though and things will inevitably change. I don't think that the plight of abused women in Islam and India etc has anything to do with western women fighting for a more equal footing. It is just another way of saying that I don't want things to change in the west. Yes there is a lot of nonsense espoused in the name of wanting to be seen doing the right thing but it is not an excuse to dismiss the disrespect that is often very prevalent. Not equivalency, equal respect.
I am a straight hypocritical bloke like some most of the posters here, and I don't have a problem with it. It doesn't really do a lot for me and to be honest there are many female photographers who take way more photos of ring girls than i do as they know they will sell. I have shot pro and amateur models of both sexes, but it makes up a tiny percentage of what I do and I do find the obsession with female models incredibly boring as a subject when there is no story to be told. There are some pretty badly behaved cuntish blokes at times who will talk about, and to ring card girls like shit, so it is not a job for the feint hearted, but the women themselves should be respected enough to let them decide for themselves what they want to do.
That said I draw the line at gluten free shampoo. I mean seriously wtf?
