I had two painters & a carpet installer come in to my work today talking about the fights this weekend.

The main reason that they watched was because of Valuev.

Also, for me, he came to the states & impressed...& honestly...I'm happy for the guy. He aint the greatest in the world...but in the end...plain & simple...he's good for the sport.
I disagree about Valuev being good for the sport. Non-fans will tune in to watch his fights for no reason other than that he's freakish. This isn't good for boxing; in fact, it makes a joke out of the sport. The guy is very big and very unimpressive in the skills department--and that fight was horrendously boring to watch, boxing-wise (freakshow-wise is another story). I personally ended up watching rounds 4-7 in fast-forward.

Honestly, the guy seems very likeable, but that's neither here nor there. He will get destroyed the first time he fights someone good. From what nearly every commentator who was on hand for the Ruiz fight says, he already lost that fight to Ruiz (and was responsible for 80% of the clinching--against RUIZ!!).

Would it be "good for boxing" to have a not-very-good-at-boxing albino, or midget, or grizzly bear get in the ring with mediocre heavyweights? (My guess is your painters and carpet installer would watch)
