so you say small fighters are obliged to have fast hands?Originally Posted by Taeth
it is common among them but it doesnt mean its a necessity
usually guys on the ligther or lower weights are quick
because they know that its their best weapon, they aint got that much power to knock people out with a single blow thats why they were trained to be fast (although there are instance where it comes as a natural gift). this is the main reason why heavyweights are slow, its because they know they got enough power. they have the tendency to depend on it toooo much thus ignoring speed training. making the division awfully sluggishthis is also the reason why we fall in love with fighters who has both power and speed. especially in the lower weigths cuz its very rare for someone who is small to posess power, while IMO heavyweights and every other athlete should be quick
imagine a flyweight who doesnt hit hard and throws punches like a sloth...
i doubt if anyone would even try to watch him. a fan nor a trainer wont expect anything from him
so it is almost a compulsory for fighters to have one(speed or power) and better if both
speed is attained when you have fit muscles, (almost all boxers are fit but again, there are some who are fat or thin but they are still quick hence, its a natural freakin gift) proper training (exercises, drills...) power can also be get thru training(but only up to the potential) and again remember that remarkable power cant be acquired cuz if it is, then everyone should have posses it.
what im tryin to say is that if we would be fascinated with someone who has both
hes gona have more appeal if he is small, CUZ again you expect all boxers to be quick but not all hard hitters. on the heavier weights they can never make an excuse that they are slow because they are strong. they shud be both because guys like d greatest ALI have done it in the past. while on the lower weigths, it is 'once in a blue moon' to see someone have both of it.
so to sum it all up. it can be acquired by anyone. and it can also be a gift for someone.
and most of the time, when someone has both of those gifts and polishes it to his full potential,
he is indeed an exciting fighter. BTW, MAB aint close of pacs handspeed![]()
what robinson is still one of the quickest i see fight footage recently of his left hook it was so fast i didnt even see it a first had to see it twiceOriginally Posted by Taeth
Yeah Ray Robinson did have Fast Hard single shots. Think of the Mayweather type single shots against Gatti (But obviously relevent to the hand speed to a 154lbs guy).
And also, i agree about Holmes who, in a sense, i see as a bit of a Hearns/ Leonard Heavyweight blend.
He had great timing/ refelxes. Good speed but telegraphed his jab alot (Although it was accurate). Which ment he would get the occasional right hand wallop!
Now this isnt me saying i think RJJ had the fastest hands but i must say he made the best use of his attributes... He's style was floored but his refelex covered that... He had no chin but his agility covered that... His hand speed, in regards to both single and combination punching, which carried power, covered the rest.
Sorry mate, i miss understood what you was sayingOriginally Posted by Taeth
