Blind Horizon (2003) 7.5/10
This is an intriguing mystery, a puzzle with multiple parts that gradually fit in together.
The acting was very good. Val Kilmer was perfect for the role and was convincing as someone with amnesia. Amy Smart was great as a sweet nurse and Sam Shepard was very good as sheriff of the border town.
I don't understand why this movie received some poor reviews, some said it's too complicated but I found nothing seriously wrong with it. It's not predictable, you are never quite sure what will happen next, and it's quite thrilling up to the very end.
Brain on fire https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3704700/
A writer struggling with a rare neurological disease from when she first suffers symptoms to the many attempts at diagnosing it and the eventual discovery of the real cause of her illness
I'll be honest, I almost binned it off. Bit of a slow burner, just get ill already. The actual story though is just incredible. The amount of people that must have fallen through this particular net is just mind blowing. Also a great reminder that there are genuinely brilliant people out there saving lives, changing minds (and saving them). The Doctor who stepped in at the eleventh hour was amazing.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

Unacknowledged (2017) 8/10
Fascinating documentary about UFOs. I still don't believe we are being visited by extra-terrestrials, but this documentary is very convincing and got me to think it may be possible.

Sand Castle (2017) 8/10
This movie is straightforward and honest, and avoids the clichés that ruin many other films about the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
Rather than having an agenda of trying to convince us that "War is Hell" or "War is Glorious", it simply tells an interesting story of a group of soldiers who were trying to provide water for Iraqi civilians.
The cast is very good, it was nice to see some new faces instead of overexposed, worn-out actors. The direction is proficient, the combat scenes are realistic and convincing.
Made my children watch Terminater 2 which they enjoyed more than the first film which has not aged well with the special affects. The boys loved T2 and I forgot what a good film it was.

The Man with the Iron Heart (2017) 6.5/10
Although some of the criticisms by those who didn't like the movie are valid, overall it wasn't terrible.
By times, it seemed hurried: it could have gone into why Röhm was killed (it was because he was gay, not because he wasn't dedicated to Hitler and the Nazi party). It should have given more details on "The Final Solution" meeting in January 1942 rather than briefly going through it. Some other less meaningful scenes, such as the assassins' preparation in Scotland were, in contrast, overly long.
Changing the time of the events, starting in 1942, then going back to 1929, and at the very end going from 1942 to the winter of 1938-39 wasn't necessary and didn't make the movie more interesting.
That being said, I liked the historical accuracy: the events, locations, costumes, and individuals were very much like what really happened. The acting was very good, especially by Rosamund Pike, Mia Wasikowska and Jason Clarke.
I remember I liked the first one more than the second, because it was adult dark sci-fi while the second one seemed to be made for a younger audience. Linda Hamilton in 1984 was more adorable than a decade later. I found the kid (the young John Connor) in Terminator II to be very annoying.
The fourth Terminator was a return to the "dark sci-fi" of the first and I liked it.
The fifth and most recent one wasn't so good, despite an excellent cast including one of my favorite actresses Emilia Clarke, because the story was so poorly written.
The first was very violent in comparison to the second, remember he killed almost everyone in the police station. In the second young John Connor ordered him not to kill so he used plenty of non-lethal ways to hurt people. Yes, it was an excuse to make in child friendly.
Deadpool is just the same.
In a way you are right, Logan is very dark and as a result a really different and better film than all the other marvel films.

watched the directors cut of 'American Gangster' its flow is ruined and its 3 hours long, definately stick to the original.
watched 'Gangster Squad' as not seen for a while, loved Sean Penn in this as a ruthless gangster who is an ex boxer. really underated film.
Looking at the Land of Mine link reminds me of Kajaki - sounds very similar
