Welcome to the site. Its great to give boxing a go, go for it. There are advantages and disadvantages to being tall and short. As the previous guy mentioned Tyson was able to use is small height to his advantage, however, you are considerably shorter than him.

Don't let this discourage you though, boxing is a great way to get in shape, if you could get down a few weight classes all the better. Losing weight will not only let you face smaller opponents, it will also give you better mobility, which is essential to avoid punches. Other short fighters such as James Toney are able to compete at the highest level because they have excellent technique.
