Working with Roach he's now got a good defense and is able to slip punches and counterpunch. I think the first Mora fight was definitely entertaining and Mora won it clearly. The second fight Peter outboxed him and should have won the decision. He has showed alot of improvement since those two fights and he can compete in the top 10. I don't see him being an all time great, but the kid has a good work ethic and will make entertaining and competetive fights. I think he will win a title at some point. He's a fighter like Gatti, his skills and physical talents aren't great by themselves, but when you put the whole package together you've got a solid fighter.

Mora is in the same boat. As far as getting questionable decisions, Mora got a couple too. I think Mora gets extra credit for his bravado and showboating. He has also shown improvement and I think he will be a solid fighter. Again he's not gonna be an all time great, but he will put on exciting and competetive fights. In the end that's what I want to see. I don't want to see a p4p great take on a tomato can to pad his resume. I want to see guys at an equal skill level put on great fights, whether they are for titles or not doesn't really matter to me. Just be competetive and entertaining. Overall I haven't been a big fan of anyone since I was a child and watched Tyson. Since I have grown up and seen that everyone is human, I just like watching solid competetive fights, and I will pay to watch guys that consistently put them on. That being said both of these guys fit that bill for me. I don't think it's fair to expect them to be all time greats because of the show. They are selling a product, and so is everyone else, I just think that these guys are solid enough to be a good value, and no one is claiming they are all time greats. The show was called contender, that's someone who hasn't made it yet. They certainly fit that definition.

Manfredo has improved but he is far from being the second coming....stick him in there with Beyer or Lacy first....

    CC, fair appraisal

I need to see a step up against the bigger names in the division though, Im not sold at this stage by any means....

If he can make a fight against a bigger draw or 2 more and actually make a real statement...that will mean something more...

Oh, absolutly. I totally agree. I think he's about ready to crack the top 10 or 12. He looks strong @ this weight... But as much as a fan as I am. I think it's about time to move up. Spina was an 8th of a step up from Pemberton IMO, although he did have power. But you gotta hit someone to KO them

You have to give Manfredo some credit against Spina, he did what he was suppose to do which was dominate the fight and get rid of the guy early. I would definantely like to see him against a couple of fighters on his level or higher to see where he really sits in the division. I thought he looked great against Spina, but he was suppose to. I think he has a bright future, he has gained a defense and if that fails he has a very solid chin, improving offensive skills, and a trainer that can continue his growth.

I just saw the fight and don't have much to add that you all haven't already said. Still, even though Manfredo was supposed to look good in this fight I am impressed on how much better he looked. He's not the most physically gifted of fighters, but you can tell working with Roach has done some great things for him. Still, I guess any fighter with enough tools to work with is going to look good/improved.

It was exciting to see Manfredo land those rights and he kept his composure and knew when to put it away. Don't know why he rushed Spina after..I didnt follow all the bad blood between them but that still seemed pretty immature especially after knocking him out like that. And then Manfredo Sr. rushed Spina and was shouting at him. Still, I don't think it was as bad as the trash Mora talked to Manfredo et al. during their fight. I think Manfredo would KO Mora at SMW pretty easyily judging on how they both performed in their previous bouts.

Yeah id like to see him against Lacy. Since the Calzaghe fight ive had my doubts about lacy, but then i remember his other fights and believe he would beat Manfredo no doubt.

    Fwock alla that mess.

Just put him in with Bika.

There's a test run. He'd lose to Bika.

    Lacy too.

    Beyer? Not so sure.

Agreed. Bika would be a good fight.

Im not sold on Manfredo whatsoever, like I say, stick him in with one of the top tier....

Might deflate some of the hype....

Obviously I'm a fan, but I think right now he loses to Bika or Lacy. I'm still pretty sure he beats Beyer. It would be nice to see him fight Beyer or Sheika, to get more time and experience in with Freddie before taking on Bika or Lacy. I think Peter as more skills than either one, but both of those guys have so much more physical talent. He needs to get a little smarter before being able to compete with those guys.

Manfredo is nothing but another hyped US SMW. Put him in with one of the sup top EU guys and he would end up like Lacy, Mock and all the other SMWs of US.

Don't you think you over hype Kessler slightly?

he has decent power - yes... he also has NO defence hardly...

    Who is talking about Kessler?

Kessler has the best defence of SMW by miles. He has been boxing since he was 13 years old and you are not able to see that he is a boxer on his face. Not a single scratch. He has never been down or even counted over and in the amateurs he fought all the tough guys from East. His defence is his movement and brain.

    I am talking about Kessler.

You constantly whinge on about the US hyping fighters... but you are a hypocrite because you constantly hypw up Kessler and fail to see any of his flaws.

He doesn't have a mark on him because he hasn't fought more than 2-3 good pros (wait for it wait for it... Royal will tell me what his opponents where ranked by ring magazine... guess what? no one gives a fuck).

You answered your own question... he steps out of range against smaller fighters... that is not defending... that is evading.

Defending is parrying, blocking, slipping etc... not 'stepping away from'.

if that where the case then RJJ would be the best defensive fighter of all time...
