Calzaghe has passed every test he has faced, but tell me how many times have you seen Roy going toe to toe with an opponent in a do all battle to establish superiority in a two man war? I cant recall Roy having to do that but if he had to? He just might look ordinary.Calzaghe however is a fighter
very few would knock as far as fighting ability goes as in some of his fight he resembles the fighters of yesteryear,a throwback to the hungry years of boxing when every performance counted if fighters were to be guaranteed
    regular and consistently good opposition.

First of all Calzaghe is a Super Middleweight....There are no regularly good guys in that division....It has been the saddest division in the sport for years at times even worse than the Cruisers......Second as far as the stand up toe to toe fighter you speak about and guys going to war...With Jones never doing it or else he might be ordinary....This is boxing not street fighting....When you are that superior to your opp you don't have to go toe to toe...Let me explain this....The idea is to hit and not be hit.....There is not a fighter out there except maybe that idiot Mayorga that wants to get hit often as possible...If you were ment to take punches then we would still toe the line,,,,Guys like Jones,,PBF,,Chris Byrd,,,James Toney ect have a style that keeps them from being beat up too much...If Byrd was a cruiser he would most likely be one of the best ever...He gets hit only b the real big guys who over power him....Guys like Gatti, Mayorga,,Arce get hit alot because they are not defensive minded and have no choice but to fight toe to toe....Get out of here with that toe to toe garbage

Calzaghe hasn't taken punches from anyone that had the left hook of Roy Jones JR.!!!

Calzaghe would have been a good test for the 168 pound RJJ but at light heavy there is 100% no doubt Roy would beat the fuck out of Calzaghe and pretty much anyone else

He couldn't even win an olympic gold medal. He fought in the weakest era of the middleweights by far, moved up to an empty super-middle division (only beating a weight drained Toney along the way). The light heavies are always crap and he avoided anyone remotely good for years. He doesn't deserve credit for beating John Ruiz either for chrissake !

Then gets knocked sparko by people who aren't very good.
    what he said

Was last night a prime Calzaghe? Unfair to judge like that. I reckon prime Jones beats Cazlaghe but it would of been one of his hardest fights and best names on his record.

I would be very very hesistant to put him on the same level as Eubank, and that would way way below Roy Jones Jr. in my books.

why not ?? anything is possible with calzaghe workrate and granite chin and good speed hes got a shot and i like both fighters im just saying why do people believe it would be one sided ??
Because it would have been man. And its an insult to say that Calzaghe would have won any more than 2 rounds at the most, thats if he went the distance.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

    Hello all,
This is officially my first post on this forum so here goes.

Recently I read on various sites a lot of articles hyping up Calzaghe after his win over the little known Australian. (I live here and I hadn't heard of him).
The bit that got to me was when he called out Hopkins and then mentioned surpassing Hopkins record title defences, that agitated me a bit to say the least. So, I thought I would view a few forums and voice my opinion.

I used to follow boxing quite intensly, but got sick of all the junk that goes with it. My questions are these:

Who has Calzaghe beat for him to even step into the ring with a Bernard Hopkins, Roy Jones Jnr or even an Antonio Tarver for that matter?

Since when was being the WBO champion so highly regarded? I'll admit I think Calzaghe is the best super middleweight about at the moment, but honestly who has he fought? when has he made an effort to leave his home turf to secure big fights?

Joe, seems to be all talk and no action and B grade fighter at best. If he thinks he will be one of the all time greats then he is dreaming, maybe an all time great on his home turf, but no all timer compared to the feats of many other boxers.

He needs more a MAB approach of letting his fists do the talking and not worry about his WBO belt, that said I think he should fight Kessler to unify the division

One final note, Calzaghe wouldn't have beaten Benn, Eubank or Jones, they had a lot mroe heart than him. The poster who claimed Roy Jones couldnt even win a gold medal, I think you need to find a new sport to follow if you are so naive you believe that

    Thank you.
