I think its a tributed to the history of a fighter. Calzaghe is usually very impressive, has a bad night and still wins. take fighter B who might never have ever been tested , steps up and gets his ass kicked. its easier for one to assume fighter B was just overrated because he has no history. see what I mean? if fighter B had a history of winning tough fights and thus has one bad outing most people would feel he had an off night.
