Any comments?
Rich looked like absolute shit....
meanwhile Anderson employs textbook Muay thai..
congrats to Silva
Franklin needs to consider new trainers....the fight shouldn't have ended that early for him.
Franklin's fault for trying to thai clinch with a Muay Thai masterOriginally Posted by mucho testosterone
Agreed.........he should have gone for the ground if he knew that Silva was that good on the stand up.
yeah but he couldn't take him down, Anderson was too strong for him. Sad because I really liked Rich, but Anderson is just in another league. Love to see Rich move down and shut up Matt Hughes though.Originally Posted by mucho testosterone
Matt hughes was talking about how he'd move up and rule the division Rich was in...you think he's rethinking that now?![]()
I always think that moving up is a bad idea...no matter what the sport.Originally Posted by Majesty
Anderson Silva is a typical example of a guy who comes over from Pride (where he didn't do so hot) and dominates the mediocre fighters of the UFC.
Guys like Franklin, Swick, Sanchez, Tim Sylvia, are all mediocre fighters would would be annihilated in the Pride ring.
Maybe he wouldn't have been able to take him down but he never really tried.Originally Posted by Majesty
Even if he did though, isn't Franklin known more for striking? I know Silva's been submitted a couple times, and I'm not gonna act like I know a S*** load about Brazillian Jiu Jitsu but Silva got a black belt in it from Noguiera, he must not be THAT bad on the ground.
You hear that a lot, but UFC fighters going to Pride have a much better record than Pride fighters coming to the UFC (which, I'm pretty sure, is actually sub .500). I wish I could find the actual numbers, but I was actually very surprised, all things considered, because I had always thought Pride was a different calibur, and to see that maybe its not as bad as people seem to think.Anderson Silva is a typical example of a guy who comes over from Pride (where he didn't do so hot) and dominates the mediocre fighters of the UFC.
EDIT: To clarify...."I wish I could find the actual numbers" means I saw a breakdown of it once, but can't find it at the moment, not that I'm making this up, and the numbers may or may not back me up
Boxing is like a handjob, and MMA is like a hot sweaty orgy with 5 chicks. I could never say no to a handjob, but which would you rather have?
No clarification necessary...i believe you
HOWEVER, if you were to have a tourney of all the pride fighters and all of the UFC fighters right now,
there is no doubt in my mind that you would have a lot of Pride fighters left standing at the end. There is just no comparison in skill in most cases when comparing these to orgs.
I think the REAL problem isnt that the UFCs best are any worse than Prides best, but the fact that outside of the WW division, the UFC has about 2-3 contenders, and then a bunch of cans. After Sylvia fights Monson, who will be left to fight in all honesty? Same goes for Chuck...they're having to bring up people from long ago to fight him, and then people to fight him in rematches or rubbermatches or re re rubbermatches. Franklin had no serious contenders for his belt after beating Tanner a few times, until the UFC signed some new fighter, who proceeded to whup him.
Sherk has a couple legit contenders, but we'll have to see how that plays out over the next year, with the division being so recently reborn. Only Hughes has a legion of legitimate contenders waiting to take his title, and 4 or 5 with a pretty serious chance of doing so, plus a few more who may be worthy of a shot some day, but most likely won't win.

I think UFC and PRIDE should combine. then all those fights could happen. Why have two competing organizatiosn when you can make one and have the best fight the best and the matches we want to see
Because the salary for a pride fighter is much much much higher than that of a UFC fighter.....globally the same goes with their respective audiences.
Their respective audiences are better paid or their respective audiences are higher?
Basically, there are too many differences between the leagues as far as rules and whatnot go...a lot of things in Pride wouldn't be allowed here in the US (stomps, etc) and things in the UFC (e.g. elbows) aren't allowed in Pride. The whole cage vs ring argument is a lot bigger than it would seem, too. The round formats are entirely different as well. It would be like merging the Canadian and American football leagues...it would be done, but most likely at the expense of one or the other leagues structure. It would wind up being more of a buyout than anything, which really won't happen any time soon, as both companies are doing pretty well for themselves (with the UFC actually gaining momentum as Pride loses it).
Also If Pride and the UFC joined, both markets would suffer from a lack of local shows, making fans in both places angry.
I'd say a much better idea would be to just get more of these "interleague" matches, where Pride fighters come and fight in the UFC and vice versa. Hell...why not try and unify the titles at some point? Maybe the LW titles, which are probably the most evenly matched.

How about a national tournament like some sort of anime where the UFC brings their best and Pride brings their best and they make it a huge event tournament UFC vs. Pride. And the champions of each division would fight each other. Prides Champions vs. UFC's Champions and the winner would be Undisputer interleague champion who could fight at both events defending his title.
Sounds good to me![]()
