Lots o' good sense all around here. Without putting Calzaghe down, I will just say - the point has been made that he fights down at the level of lesser opponents. (That could be taken as a put-down of Bika, but let it stand.)
Fair enough that it works for him, and so I won't really judge him for it.
Still - he shouldn't oughta do that. It's rather a fool's game.
He should stay in his best style and fight from there, so the distinction between him and the opponent is made clear during the fight. Fight down and you might get caught, because you allow the opponent to fight a familiar fight.
Sure, you can say that in the end all that matters is that he is 42-0. And from one perspective, that is right. And I have no business dictating to Joe how he should approach fights.
But it's my opinion, to which I'm entitled, and I'm sharing it with you. Obviously you have to adjust from one opponent to another, but this is not the same - fighting down.
He shouldn't oughta do that. It's not very Hopkins-like. And, from one way of looking at things, that makes it wrong. Heh. Science it up, Joe. Out Box. Don't just win. Figured you could. But that doesn't make for great fights, for the memorable clinics, for the building of the legend. Don't you want those things too, along with the W?
'course, ain't none of my business ... can't argue with 42-0 really ...
