It really wasn't the referee's fault. The last couple of punches happened very fast.

However, there have been fights where the referee was negligent, especially Paret-Griffiths.
I think that with Benn/McLellan the damage to Stevenson happened early and it just got worse. You can't really see it- But from the middle of the fourth round onward, he was staggering around the ring, moving one way and being hit with the same shot as if he could not get out of the way.
