That's a poor comparison, it's like asking - How come it's OK to beat people unconscious in a sanctioned event (boxing) but not OK to randomly attack people in the street? You are trying to find a correlation between chalk and cheese.
Dog fighting and rooster fighting (your hero Roy's passion) and all animal cruelty is disgusting, just like men who beat up women are disgusting (unless they have a genuine reason like the dinner was late or something).
