Dominic Breazeale admits he may ditch Dillian Whyte fight in favour of Deontay Wilder showdown
The American is in line for a WBC heavyweight title shot
Dillian Whyte could be set for heavyweight disappointment once again as his proposed WBC ‘interim’ title fight with Dominic Breazeale is in jeopardy.
After a bout with Anthony Joshua fell through, the Brixton heavyweight was ordered to face Breazeale for the right to take his spot as Deontay Wilder’s mandatory challenger.
This order was made as the WBC believed Wilder was on the verge of agreeing a rematch with Tyson Fury and wanted to mop up the mandatory situation in the meantime.
Now however, it seems this may not be the case as Fury has instead signed a co-promotional deal to fight on rival US network ESPN.
“I’m excited,” said Breazeale told Inside PBC on Fox about the news, “That was the biggest thing that’s happened [to me] in the last 15 months.
“A situation like that where Fury kind of pulls out of his rematch is the best thing for the WBC mandatory.
“I’m super excited to take the fight, I’m waiting for the phone call with the date.”
This is of course bad news for Dillian Whyte, as his opportunity to become Wilder’s mandatory may now go begging.
When asked directly about Whyte, Breazeale explained: “That’s actually a fight we’ve been negotiating.
“Me and Dillian Whyte’s people have been talking. Al [Haymon] has done a great job of putting that together, we’re actually moving that ball and trying to get a date set on that.
“But with this news on Wilder coming out, I can’t pass on a world title.
“If I don’t get the world title, I’ll definitely take the WBC ‘interim’ title, for sure.”

It's a bit nuts that Breazeale even has multiple 'options'.
I smell Eddie Hearn behind this?
Bigger man George, bigger punch!
