Boxing’s heavyweight ‘Big 3’ continue to spin their wheels with news of ‘Fury vs Schwartz’

This author says it perfectly. In fact, there's one excerpt from the article I found downright funny, as it mirrors how I feel about the Fury-Schwarz fight.

"To be honest, Joshua vs. Miller and Wilder vs. Breazeale are perfectly acceptable fights when not viewed as alternatives to Joshua vs. Wilder. Miller’s on a tear and Breazeale has been the mandatory challenger for more than one year. Both are respected fighters, albeit ones on a tier below the elite. However, the real kick in the teeth came when Fury announced his next foe: Tom Schwarz.

BoxRec has Schwarz ranked No. 42 in the division. He’s fought just once outside of his native Germany and never against a respected opponent. Fury facing the likes of Sefer Seferi and Francisco Pianeta was acceptable considering he was coming off a gargantuan layoff, but this is inexcusably bad matchmaking.

I honestly can’t muster up the energy to spew invective. This isn’t even anger-inducing at this point, just profoundly dumb. The one silver lining is that each of the three still have years left in their respective careers. Perhaps they can sort this all out by 2021, assuming none of them get knocked out while their fights “marinate.”"

"Can't muster up the energy to spew invective."

I'm gonna have to remember that the next time someone twists my words in an argument to suit his needs.

So Fury avoids Wilder rematch to fight someone who has never faced even a fringe contender before?

    Very disappointing.

Tom Schwartz is pretty big and strongand fury does has a habit of getting hit every so often, obviously is going to be a pretty small chance as Schwartz is pretty slow but these things happen sometimes.

I don't think fury can handle the pressure of being favourite in a world title fight, that's twice now that's he's dodged a rematch for the world title.

Yes... Schwarz IS big and strong, and Fury DOES have a habit of getting hit every so often.

And I'm sure Fury will be reminding us of that every single day leading up to the fight.

Amazing though how we fight fans have this incredible ability to look for the silver lining.

The reality though, is that it's a huge step down for Fury, and looks even worse when you consider it wasn't long ago we were anticipating a rematch with Wilder.

It's like ok.... I was expecting an Xbox for Christmas but they say this jigsaw puzzle you gave me is really a lot of fun.

The only silver lining I can give this is, AJ and Wilder both have fights coming up anyways, at basically the same time as this one. Not saying for a second this makes Fury more likely to fight one of them afterwards, but it doesn’t hurt the chances either. How many opponents would have realistically satisfied anyone? I’d say Parker, Ortiz or Whyte, and we all knew they weren’t going to be fury’s first opponent under his new contract.
