Josh Warrington: Leeds United fan says it ‘would be nice’ to use famous Marcelo Bielsa blue bucket as stool in next fight

The 29-year-old will defend his IBF featherweight title in Leeds later this year

Lifelong Leeds United fan Josh Warrington would consider using Marcelo Bielsa’s famous blue bucket as his stool for his next fight.

Warrington is due to defend his IBF featherweight title against Kid Galahad at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on June 15.

Bielsa is often seen on the touchline perching on an upside down blue bucket.

Warrington was asked if he would consider using one as his stool for his next fight in an interview with The Sun.

“That would be nice,” he said. “But I’m not sure whether my dad would lift it in and out of the corner quick enough.

“Bielsa is amazing, though, a proper box of tricks. The players speak so highly of him, he makes us all believe.”

The 29-year-old won the title at Elland Road in May 2018 with a split decision win over Lee Selby.

He has since gone on to defeat former champion Carl Frampton in Manchester in December 2018.

Warrington, who was fighting for the third time at Leeds United’s home, described the feeling of walking out and trying to win a world title at Elland Road.

“I felt I was giving Leeds fans something to cheer about when Leeds weren’t doing too clever,” he said.

“I’m just a kid from a council estate who always dreamt of performing at Elland Road. I didn’t intend to have such a connection with the Leeds United support, I’m just one of them, but it’s snowballed.

“Last season we were rubbish and finished 15th but the fight was something they could get behind and enjoy.

“It wasn’t just the fight but the occasion. That day there was a Royal wedding, an FA Cup final, the weather was amazing, Lucas Radebe, my boyhood hero, walked me out, Kaiser Chiefs played me out live . . . ”

Josh has been in some good fights but Galahad is not the type to make classics.

Warrington has had a nice domestic run, does he have world aspirations?

I think he has achieved the world class status with his last 2 performances.

Well if winning and then defending the IBF belt is not enough to confirm that then ..?

He probably means fighting Leo Santa Cruz in Vegas (or New York).

I think Warrington would jump at the chance as would his promotional/management team. It might be a step to far but i think the ambition is there.
