My five and seven year old grandsons want to be YouTubers as a job. Fucking hell man. I must have shot 250+ bands before I got to interview who I wanted and spent years mentoring young artists before getting commissioned by the arts Council. Short cut culture is what it is and I do not envy that kind of fame its about the work for me not some gurning vox pop drive for more likes.

That is why 'I wouldn't even rape you' is not satire and dog videos are not the same as fellow jock Boyle mastering the use of the English l as language as a medium as evidenced in his brilliant columns.

I don't agree with censorship which is why I have workefmd for those who have defended these guys but I reserve the right to call a spade a spade that is what free speech means.

It is also why I laughed when Al offered me an apprenticship not because I think I am too good to work in a supermarket or labour on a site, I have done both. Yet when you want to forge your own path and put in the thousands of hours needed to expand your skill set and cv as a freelancer, so you can make a living not having to do such menial boring crap, it gets scorned as though anyone not fitting into a box must be a bullshitter.

Hmmm.. it comes across a bit bitter or jealous (like the journos hunting down Robinson for cringe-worthily claiming he's a journalist) when you claim your own personal work/effort/life choices are more worthy than someone else, with some other interest, having success, or not, in some other field.

How is that much different to AL regarding anyone without a "proper" job and bank full of filthy lucre is a "peasant?"

Or Miles calling 15 million people a lowlife chav for enjoying the X-factor and failing to fall in love with Brett Anderson?

One man's medicine is another man’s poison.

Anyone who believes they will definitely succeed in life as long as they keep "working" is a silly fool. Nobody is special. Nobody "deserves" a fucking thing.

I don't think they are low life chavs for enjoying that, but I do think most people have pretty terrible taste, especially when they are young. For me, I am a bit snobbish in that I despise soaps, celebrity, and things of that nature. I simply do not see the point. That is a subjective statement of course. However, I think once people get beyond 30 or what have you many do start to catch up as people do grow and crave more.

I am not sure what your last point is about and assume it is something Beanz has said, but I think anybody can do well provided they keep working. If it is something like You Tube or stand up then you might get nowhere. But if you are going to earn a wage and bank regularly nobody has an excuse to not 'succeed', at least by my definition, which is to have a home, some food, and the occasional holiday. I agree that nobody deserves anything.

I say fair play to the You Tubers like Pew Die Pie and Co. who have started from nothing and what have you. Beanz goes on about people getting donations, but isn't it good that people are given a choice to pay or not? It's like donating to charity rather than the government taking by force. It is meritorious in that regard. Also for those who put on adverts, you do also have the choice not to watch adverts by blocking them. It's like if you want a book, do you want it for free or do you pay for it? Isn't it even more respectful to say 'Pay if you want, but if you don't want to, then no big deal, just take it'. Kind of cool really. I don't knock self creators and if they get popular then good for them. I think also for some like Nazi Dog Man, he has actually tried getting regular work, but people keep trying to get him sacked and so he has no other avenues. I think that is rather unfair myself as he obviously is a pretty smart chap and like many is quite left leaning in his values. It is just that he likes to make naughty jokes with his dog. I don't think someone like Boyle is any more worthy than a You Tube comedian who hits the big time. Either you can translate to people or you cannot. There are some terrible comedians out there and even Alan Partridge has stopped being funny.

It probably does come across as being bitter but I can assure you I am not jealous. That is kind of the point. I don't think I am above being racist or a snob but i am certainly not some white Knight PC crusader either just because it simplifies people's choices to suggest that must be my position. It is a very binary world now, with very little empathy , more than ever, and it never fails to astound me how willfully misconstrued things are in order to win an argument on the interweb, rather than find some common ground. It's a bit like the higher moral ground immigrants are supposed to inhabit, as though they are not just normal people with the same collection of bastards and good people as the home grown knobs who have been wrecking the country for years.

Sometimes I hate my job, trying to get invoices paid by clients is like trying to squeeze money out of Master , a Jew, a stone. It is a choice, but also one that circumstances dictated, it is hardly special . Loads of self employed on here now the traditional kind of jobs are vanishing and the 'nobody has an excuse not to succeed' and 'if you are poor it's because you live beyond your means' rubbish is going to apply to more and more people if all people are worried about is getting a YouTube fix, refusing to pay for books, music, art etc and the automation of traditional jobs continues

I do not consider anyone who doesn't have a job a peasant , they are peasants.
For the record I'm working class like everyone here except the ones who don't work so are not working class.
Maybe Master is some Bengali Royalty but thats it.

I think more people need to lighten up in general.
Everybody likes to play the victim, mostly because they have sad lives.
Nobody here should ever feel they have to justify any part of their lives, however if you live by the sword they you have to die by the sword.
I think thats is a pretty good rule to learn so people dont cry themselves to sleep at night.
