good thread. lots of good takes.

agreed: AA should have gotten TS to the ground.
agreed: TS is better than people think. He actually is a pretty good puncher. He doesn't look sloppy and awkward at all like you'd expect from a guy 12' tall.
agreed: the best of UFC could compete well in pride and in a few cases challenge for the belt.

But if Assuerio Silva could not for the life of him get Sylvia to the ground (and the one or two times he did, he couldn't get a damned thing done) and he's a grappling expert for all intents and purposes, what makes you think that Arlovski, who has yet to really prove any significant takedowns and/or ground game, could? I know he's got a background in Sambo, but he has yet to actually show that, and realizes purely on striking.

Hell...did you see his fight with Cabbage? Cabbage is like a freakin turtle on his back....he has no idea what to do. But AA STILL tried to take him down with strikes (which he couldn't really do....it was a terrible stoppage. He was definately winning the stand up, but was having no real visible effect on Cabbage....he should have won the fight in the first minute or two with a quick takedown and sub)
Boxing is like a handjob, and MMA is like a hot sweaty orgy with 5 chicks. I could never say no to a handjob, but which would you rather have?

I certainly hope not :P He was a terrible striker...

But yeah, he has a Muay Thai and BJJ background, but he seemed a LOT more like a BJJ fighter to me against Sylvia, and that was how the UFC hyped him.

And looking at Sherdog, it does say MT/BJJ, but 6 of his wins are by submission, with only 3 by KO/TKO.

I beleive Arlovski better than sylvia, arlovksi has no power in his punchs when in urgency he will load up with that big shot that will knock anybody down but then when he tries to finish it he just swings without aiming and puts no power into the punchs

That sounds like 99% of all MMA fighters! They just can't box.
