I watched something about that recently, they have found fairly sophisticated tombs and dwellings for some of the workers on the pyramids, they were buried with jewelry and nice things etc. Im sure many were slaves, but the things couldnt have been built if that was all of them. What did you really need money for in ancient Egypt anyways, if you had the basic needs met... oh I guess whores, but maybe there were plenty of workers like @walrus around who would take it in exchange for nicely shaped rocks you could find in the sand. Slavery has gone on for years , in some arab states they still have African slaves.
As for European white slave traders is was as simple as being more advanced than the black Africans. What I mean by that is - better ships / weapons / etc.
They wrongly saw the tribes people as animals to take advantage of, this is a part of world history most people are not proud of.
The fact is it happened and people got rich off it, on a small scale it still goes on today.
