Terrible. Just 28.
Thank funk Buddy McGirt pulled him out, at least he can take a smidgen of solace for putting Dadashev's health above pride and materialism. Imagine the shit he'd be getting, the backlash, had he not stopped it?

McGirt has said he was thinking of chucking the towel in 2 rounds before so it's definitely gonna fuck with his mind, same day weigh ins would help but pre fight & mid fight brain scans is the only way to give fighters the best protection.
Massive problem is it could kill Boxing, no promoter or tv networks are gonna be up for fighters being stopped fighting before or during fights, ticket refunds, rearranging venues, tv slots and opponents would kill the Sport in time.
Was Matias varda tested?
Those punch stats are insane and he didn't appear to be slowing down, i saw the fight and he was upping the pace with every round and seemed stronger in the last few rounds.
Those stats are up there with Jarrell Miller's punch stats so questions have got to be asked.
Terrible tragedy and it could happen to ANYONE and it could happen in any number of sports.
I feel for Dadashev's family, I feel for Buddy McGirt, I feel for Subriel Mattias, I feel for the Ref....I mean this kind of incident has a ripple effect and we've all seen it play out before and we'll see it play out again even after this.

The buddy should have just stopped it. Max did not have to agree. Most fighters will not agree in fear of repulsion for resignation. RIP a true warrior. Words of regret to his family and friends

Hugo Alfredo Santillan, 23, is second boxer to die from injuries in a week
Professional boxing has suffered its second death in less than a week after Argentinian fighter Hugo Alfredo “Dinamita” Santillan died on Thursday from injuries sustained in the ring. He was 23.
Santillan’s death comes only days after Russian boxer Maxim Dadashev died from injuries he suffered during a fight last Friday. The 28-year-old was placed into a medically induced coma after the fight but died on Tuesday.
Santillan, a super lightweight, was fighting against Uruguay’s Eduardo Javier Abreu in Buenos Aires on Wednesday night. According to local reports, his nose started to bleed in the fourth round but he finished the fight. However, as the result of the bout – a draw – was announced, he fainted and was taken to hospital.

Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Things are probably going to change in boxing soon. I’m guessing they will start stopping fights earlier when someone is getting beat. I understand there is a fine line with this situation though. You need to give the fighter a chance to win, but sometimes they really have no chance.
The Ugas and Figueroa fight from this weekend is a perfect example. Ugas dominated every round but they let it continue with Figueroa getting hit again and again and not having enough fire power to hurt Ugas. Those are the fights that need to be stopped much sooner
