Golovkin's GGG promotions and Hearn's Matchroom Boxing announce link-up

Gennady Golovkin and Eddie Hearn have announced their companies will work together to promote future 'GGG' events.

The Kazakh's GGG Promotions and Hearn's Matchroom Boxing will commence their link starting with Golovkin's bout against Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the vacant IBF middleweight title in New York on October 5.

With Golovkin and Hearn joining forces, the possibility of a showdown with new Matchroom recruit Billy Joe Saunders increases.

Callum Smith, Daniel Jacobs and Demetrius Andrade are also part of the Matchroom stable.

"My promotion company and I are happy to partner up with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom to bring the fans what they want – the best boxing and the best events," Golovkin said via a Matchroom statement.

"By teaming up with Matchroom, we stress that GGG Promotions is committed to presenting the biggest events in the most important arenas.

"I'm always happy to work with the best in business, and I'm looking forward to what this collaboration will bring to the boxing fans."

Golovkin saw his unbeaten record ended by Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez last September, a fight that took place a year after the pair's first meeting ended in a contentious draw.

He returned to winning ways in June with a fourth-round knockout of Steve Rolls.

Hearn said he recognises that a trilogy fight with Canelo remains a scrap many want to see, but he wants Golovkin to take on other challenges.

"We know the world wants to see the Canelo trilogy but there are so many opportunities out there for Gennady all over the world and we look forward to working together on them," Hearn said.

"First things first is for Gennady to win the title on October 5."

Good fight. Much better than letting Golovkin pound another Rolls out. Derevyanchenko is a solid fighter but at some point he'll sit down and try to fight it out with Golovkin and be on the bad side of it. Golovkin gets his trinket and the whole Canelo wants his strap back stuff builds.

I'm glad that this battle was confirmed. This shows where Golovkin is now and how much he has left

I like this fight. GGG has either fought Canelo or some random fighter for the past few years. It’s about time he fights one of the top fighters in the division. GGG should win, but he is aging and Derevyanchenko is a solid opponent.

True. I still think he should not have rematched Canelo. Nothing to prove when you won the fight convincingly and get a draw. Boxing is crooked and everyone knows that, so it was a waste of career ladder time but another payday. He still won the rematch but then has the loss to show for it. I hope he is done with Canelo and that Canelo really does fight Kovalev.

Listening to Golovkin this week - he's speaking in his own tongue as he was tired of being made a fool - what a difference to the goofy smiling "big drama show," "Mexican style." He actually comes across as intelligent/savvy.

Instead of nodding and smiling like a lap dog, when they're throwing supermiddle names at him, he firmly says he's a middleweight who has every intention of staying at middleweight. He mentioned Murata in Japan for a title (which will make the Al boys happy).

I hope GGG isn't under some sort of illusion where he thinks he needs a KO or an impressive outing to get the 3rd Canelo fight. That could spell trouble. Things going to norm, I see an 8-4, maybe 9-3 type GGG win.

You accidentally used “boys” right, don’t know the history of it right?
