Default My "New" Top Twenty since 1945

    By TED SARES

They say one learns from his or her mistakes. Let's see if there is any truth to that as I come up with a revised list below. And why since 1945? Because I actually witnessed each listed boxer fight at one time or another, and I don't mean by video. Of course, I carefully analyzed their records, ko percentages, skill-sets, the era in which they fought, entire body of work, quality of opposition and other important criteria as well.

    1) Sugar Ray Robinson.

    2) Joe "The Brown Bomber" Louis,

    3) Guglielmo Papaleo aka Willie Pep,

    4) Carlos "Escopeta" Monzone.

    5) Muhammad Ali.

    6) Larry "The Easton Assassin" Holmes.

    7) Marvelous Marvin Hagler

    Sugar Ray Leonard.

    9) Roberto "Manos de Piedra" Duran

    10 Bernard Hopkins

    11) Sandy Saddler.

    12) Salvador "Chava" Sanchez.

    13) Ricardo "Finito"Lopez.

    14) Roy Jones Jr.

    15) Jose "Mantequilla" Napoles.

    16) George "Big George" Foreman.

    17) Rocky "The Brockton Blockbuster" Marciano.

    1 Archie "Old Mongoose" Moore.

    19) Luis Manuel "El Feo" Rodriguez.

    20) Tie between Aaron "The Hawk" Pryor.

    And

    20) Thomas "Hitman" Hearns

If I had have ever seen Eder " The Golden Bantam" Jofre fight, I am certain he would be high up on this list.

Well, there it is. Got a better one? Let's see it!

I applaud anyone who takes the time to creat a list. Though you will NEVER see one you completely agree with.

As far as this list IMO.

    Hopkins is a little high
    Duran is too low
    Holmes is too high
    Lopez is waaaaay too low

    but thats just me.

NOt bad... But certainly Joe Louis can't be on the list since 1945.. And to not have Pernell Whittaker on there is ridiculous. Unless you are simply stating the top twenty fighters you've seen live... In which case your list is better than mine.

P4P, Why not Louis? As for, Pernell, a tough one to leave out, but there is only so much room for stylists and great defensive fighters (Pep and Feo). Who would you replace with him? What does your list look like? What does your back-up narrative say? Peace
