Billy Joe Saunders keen to make a big impression on KSI vs Logan Paul 2 undercard and secure Canelo Alvarez fight, says Eddie Hearn

Billy Joe Saunders’ world title defence on the undercard of KSI vs Logan Paul 2 is a good chance to raise his profile in America, according to promoter Eddie Hearn.

The WBO super-middleweight title holder will take on Marcelo Coceres at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on Saturday, ahead of the rematch between the YouTube sensations.



It will be Saunders’ first defence of his belt after beating Shefat Isufi in May.

“We are going to try and piggyback off the back of that audience to increase the profile of Billy Joe Saunders and Devin Haney,” Hearn told talkSPORT.

“This is Billy Joe Saunders’ first fight in America and if it was him on his own then you might have a hundredth of the audience you are going to get for this fight.

“He understands it, he gets it. It’s a really important fight for him as it is his first attempt at defending is super-middleweight world title.”

It’s a shame Lomachenko petitioned the WBC for the right to sanctioned ducking. It makes a person look back at Berchelt being the number 1 threat at 130 and calling for the fight only to be rebuffed. Haney just needs to look past the sanctioned ducking and build his career against those that are willing to fight. At some point at some weight people will call for Lomachenko to fight one of the best at the weight. He’s refused Berchelt, refused Garcia, refused Haney, but eventually they will have to accept a fight against someone. Then Haney has his chip, if Loma has any ambitions for anything real, not ESPN lies of an undefeated record, not WBC lies of undisputed, but something real he will have to fight for the real WBC belt. And Haney will have his chance.

Today is meaningless though, the whole damn card is a circus. DAZN isn’t getting subscriptions so they’re desperate. Maybe a circus is what they need though because their attempt at real boxing has been a disaster of epic proportions. Nobody could have imagined they would have gotten such a tiny piece of the US market. I don’t expect today to help but I’m over 40, I know nothing of what 20-30 year olds find entertaining today. If it gets subscriptions and said subscriptions leads to good fights and less stuff like allowing Chavez to fight while suspended then good, let the train wreck be over. Let the boxing begin

Saunders needed that stoppage momentum had shifted, Argentine looks legit and should get another opportunity because I think in his head he had already won but not realizing 2 rounds to go

Nice little sneak right working for Coceres but edged 9th to Saunders. Dye has already been cast though, no the outing Saunders was needing at all. Man Coceres going all Sergio Martinez hands at hips and clipping Saunders clean in 10th! Unknown put himself on the map and Saunders needs to get his head outta his arse here.
