I didn’t even think about that. Is Canelo going down to middleweight for this? I would actually be pretty shocked if he did. I’m guessing at best a catchweight.

Canelo Alvarez reportedly considering Japan fight with Ryota Murata, instead of Callum Smith or Billy Joe Saunders
Canelo Alvarez’s representatives are reportedly in ‘serious talks’ to potentially fight Ryota Murata next.
The Mexican star had been expected to challenge one of Britain’s super-middleweight champions, Callum Smith or Billy Joe Saunders, in his upcoming outing, but could now change course.
BJS was said to be the frontrunner until the promoters poured cold water on the idea.
Now, according to Chris Mannix, Canelo vs Murata is a very real possibility to take place this spring in Japan.
Last month Canelo stated he would love to fight in the country one day, though did not mention his plans could come to fruition this quickly.
It’s understood that nothing is confirmed yet and that, as things stand, Murata is one of three potential opponents.
A safe bet would suggest Smith and Saunders remain as the other two.
Regardless, this news will come as a blow to the British pair, who are both hoping to secure the golden ticket fight against boxing’s biggest name.
Should neither of them get the call, Eddie Hearn has previously stated he would like them to face each other in what would be a WBA & WBO super-middleweight title unification.

The only time Canelo ventures out of the friendly confines of the Little Mexico (Vegas) scene, is when the computer spits out an opponent with no chance and ripe for the picking. Then he goes running back home claiming some sort of legacy-building victory. If he doesn't drag Murata into catchweight waters... he'll dehydrate himself to 160... and blow up to 180+ on fight night.
The Pied Piper of Boxing continues playing his flute.... and the legions of blind fans continue to swallow the whole Hollywood hype job hook, line, and sinker. Talks of him fighting a real, live opponent will always be met with deaf ears, or the same ol' tired excuses we've always heard.
BTW..... how's that Franchise Champion ball of horseshit coming along?
No way will Canelo go down to MW. He might make Murata go to SMW and he might go to Japan. But he will hold all the advantages in the ring on fight night.
People are gonna be pissed off whoever they pick, but lets be realistic, he was never gonna fight Callum Smith and certainly not at Anfield.
Former Undisputed 4 belt Prediction champion. Still P4P and People’s Champion.
spin the truth?
canelo's not stealing children
so is it the age, number of fights or loses with murata?
where are andrade and charlo? didn't hearn offer charlo an andrade fight? sergiy d is number one to charlo, so he already has his hands full, but will likely try and get a eubank fight signed before he is forced into a real challenge
the biggest stars will always take criticism, it comes with success. people were bitching about bjs being in the running. callum just got a gift. canelo would sleep both, easy. i don't see charlo, andrade, ggg, bjs or smith moving up to face kov. ggg or ryder should get the canelo fight next
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.
Spin it to make it look better than it is. We all know that being an Olympic gold medalist counts for nothing in the pros. There have been many gold medalists who have done absolutely nothing in the pros. So trying to make it sound like fighting an Olympic gold medalist is some sort of great accolade in the pros is just grasping at straws to make it look better than it is.
Any non biased person knows that this is a gimme fight to expose Canelo to Japan and extend his global popularity
